Mikey Whipwreck vs. Mike Awesome
It was great to see Mikey back where he belongs and he seemed genuinely pleased to be back. Awesome came out to a huge ovation and the crowd generally seems to love the guy as the World Champion. Once in the ring, Mike really showed his stuff to the crowd. To anyone who isn't sure why Awesome is the champ, check out his in ring work. Its "awesome." Stiff powerbomb through the table and Mikey was done, but a fine opener.
Chris Candido vs. Nova
This was a nice match with good things out of both men but not nearly the show stopper we have heard these two have done at other venues. Nova's win was a very nice thing to see and the whole Paul E. welcoming them back after the match was very nice. Crowd didn't really understand, but it was a great thing to see as they are back on the road to success.
The whole Danny saga as they sent Miss C. packing was interestingly played out. Cyrus is extremely funny on the mic and Roadkill is really coming into his own with his character with the humor.
Guido vs. Crazy vs. Spike
This was a good match with a lot of crazy stunts out of all three. The table bump on Sal was also a nasty little shot at my feet. Crazy had some sick dives in the crowd and Spike was there with him doing his flips and such. Super Crazy, who was the most over of the three, got the win to please the crowd. At this point though, the crowd began to die down a bit and for the next few matches...very little heat came from the crowd. It was disappointing but sometimes can happen to a hot crowd.
Jerry Lynn vs. Tajiri
A excellent match with a lot of good ring work by both guys that was brought down only by the heatless crowd that just couldn't get into this one. Certainly it wasn't because of the work being done in the ring, and its an interesting debate on why the crowd was very very quiet. Tajiri's win was a nice change of pace and really looked good for TV.
The whole mess that was the singles match, that turned into the Baldies vs. Axl and Balls that turned into the New Jack plunder riot was just very old and very worn. Jack hitting the ring was typical and then the whole "staple to the eye" thing was just too common. These "worked shoot" injuries that ECW likes to throw in just dont work in my opinion cause they arent believable...they are supposed to look like they are "for real" but arent. If you want to work somekind of injury angle, just work it. Its not necessary to get over the severity of the injury by making it look "legit."
Rob Van Dam vs. Sabu
It was just great work. Non stop action and both guys broke their back for 40 minutes in this one. The only down side is that the fans were just asleep. Nothing could bring them into it until near the end when they thought maybe Sabu would take the gold. Even after the final draw was announced, they were very disrespectful and demanding of more hard work out of two men that killed themselves already. It was a sad display from fans who are already called "spoiled" and "not what they used to be." The match itself has match of the year written all over it.
Dreamer and Raven vs. Impact Players and the return of the Sandman
The tag match itself was nice for what it was, the Dreamer/Raven angle is hilarious to watch as both men are just plain amusing as they pick on one another. They worked a nice brawl match with some crazy moves but the return of the Sandman caused the biggest pop I have ever heard out of the ECW Arena. It made a night that was basically heatless from the crowd into a spectacular event where the crowd couldn't be calmed down. It ended an excellent outing at the ECW Arena.
