Julius Maximus

Julius Maxima was born to a wealthy merchant family in the growing town of Maxima in 1 PS. As a youth he often traveled to the capitol since his father was a senator for a small time, as well as for business reasons. Julius loved to hear the senate debate, and clinged to every word of the great Pallatius, absorbing his philosophies of life and duty to Maxa. Feeling a call to service, instead of taking the reigns of his fathers profitable marble quarries, Julius enlisted in the Imperial Academy and worked his way up from cadet to Legion Tribune, engaging in various campaigns against the barbarous men of the north and other wilds needing to be maintained. He, along with his family, were silent opposers to the viscious rule of Emperor Lacerta, and for this Julius was honorably dismissed from service, where he turned back to business at the age of 45. For the next few years during the unfortunate decay of the Empire, Julius had to death with the slow taxation and confiscation of his families businesses, and the death of his father and mother. Slowly he was ostracized from the wealthier class and his "friends" he found himself often roaming with his workers and the "commoners". Julius began to understand and truely love the citizens, and finally grasped the words of Pallatius, and his cry against the sullists some 60 years ago. And thus Julius took his stand with the people after the empire fell apart. Surviving the intial chaos, the various battles with the corrupt legion commanders, merchent armies, and finally the great slaughter at the capitol by the troll forces, Julius rose like his icon, Pallatius. Under his guidence, the classes were bridged, all citizens made equal and again to see that Maxima rules herself. He lead the Legions against the trolls and drove them back again to their troll fortress, only to suffer a bittersweet defeat at the hands of the enigmatic Ogre Mages. From these triumphs and losses Julius developed a respect for all foes (especially the Ogre Mages) as well as friends, like the elves who fought beside them. Under his guidence as Emperor, Maxima grew and prospered once again, enterting into a golden age that the world would never again see the like of.
