Making copies of old films, photos and slides is a regular part of this business, our rush time is of course the holiday season. We often have a difficult time filling the orders because of the rush. If you would like a transfer and plan on giving the copies to friends and relatives please do not wait till the last minute. This work is very time consuming and often we have to work with a single film clip many times to make it come out.
FILM OF ALL KINDS DETERIORATES AND IS LOST EVERY DAY.
The old home movies you have are some of the most special records of your family history. They may not last much longer because the film is simply falling apart physically or chemically.
These are the basic reason, that home movies are being lost. The really need to be saved today and transfered to different formats.
If you have a box of old picture negatives, the best thing to do is take them to a processing facility in your area and ask that they make contact sheets of them. In this way you can see what you have on them, they can put them in envelopes and order them so you can find a specific picture if you want it. The pictures will be the same size as the negative you give them. This really is the least expensive approach.
The most useable format today is the video tape, so you can play these in your own home now.
DVD and CD's can hold the same information,(we can put the same thing on a CD that we put on a DVD or a video tape) a CD holds one-half hour of video(or less) and audio and a DVD hold two-hours of video and audio. The average home today does not own a DVD. Many homes today do have computers which will play CD's.
I have made the pricing as reasonable as possible for this work. Each photo, slide, and film reel must be re-photographed, and much work must be done to improve each image so it looks really good. This means improving the color, the exposure, changing the speed which the film is played. Pictures which you cannot see well at all on the film can often be made viewable. Many time consuming dutys are required to produce a nice presentation for you. Most but not all film can be made viewable.
Music and Narration involves a more complicated scripting and there will be details which we must work out.
