Gallery #2

6/20/04 -- Although not as numerous as the Magicicada, the Tibicen are similar to them in many ways, including the fact that they don't care what they molt on, as long as it allows for them to expand their wings. This T. pruinosa, like three before it (as evidenced by the empty exoskeletons), has chosen the side of the house.

6/20/04 -- A close up of a female Tibicen lyricen newly emerged and drying her wings.

Same cicada. As you can see, she is on our river cane. I still don't see how they climb up those slick stalks!!

6/20/04 -- Apparently, this ash branch is a popular place for cicada nymphs to hang out on their big night. And sometimes they even like to molt in a group! =)
