AMPUTATION (green)
He carried her around wrinkled in his pocket for weeks
before he cast the spell. The casting was a complecated matter,
requiring many detailed molds. Unfortunately there was an error
in the spelling (why didn't I see it sooner he moaned.) It caused
the casting to backfire.
When she emerged from the chalk circle in a nimbus of
radiant gaseous green she cast a long shadow, a shadow like long
claws cast over the room and over his jaggedly drawn face,
draining of life.
fading out... pain washing through bones and veins like
hot water, bladder and bowels releasing simultaneously. He
toppled to the floor, staring up through the green miasma. He
saw her smile, and she was not herself today. She was something
different and, even with the same flawless face and body she was
something horrible.
He saw her smile, wide and starless, wide and wet,
consciousness collapsing around her, drowning in her clouds.
In palpitations, cramping heart, clenching intestines he was
paralyzed. The last ten second mystery he dreamt; a coke can,
bright red and crushed in an empty parking lot, completely
vacant, abandoned now even by the flies and ants.
She licks a small sweetness from her teeth as she leaves
the room.
