Taverns on a frontier, or a barbaric planet such as Gor, serve as meeting places for the local populace and travelers alike. They usually offered a place to spend the night, stables and feed for animals, hot meals for the road weary, drink, female companionship, and most important of all, news of the day In a place like Port Kar, the taverns by the waterfront are where one goes to hire, or be hired, to find out the latest news of the sea and the river. Which ships or barges are in port, which sailed with the tide. Which Captains are in need of a crew, and which ships are available to carry cargo. Who was attacked and who had smooth sailing. How far south do the Torvaldslanders raid and those sleen from Cos, what of them? What is Thentis asking for beans and Ar the price of silk? War is brewing where, and when, and is it worth the gamble, or better avoided? Are the wagon peoples still fighting among themselves or does peace reign on the Great Plains? Much is to be learned in a tavern but of course one must be careful in the asking. A paga tavern is a place for men, men of Gor.
