WALKTHROUGH

WORLD ONE: DINO DOMAIN

BEST RACERS:

ANCIENT LAKE JUNGLE FALLS TRICKY THE TRICERATOPS

FOSSIL CANYON HOT TOP VOLCANO FIRE MOUNTAIN

After you've beaten all of the first four levels you will be called on to face Tricky the Triceratops for the first time. If you know anything at all about video games then you should be able to win on the first attempt. You should be O.K. as long as you use a Lightweight driver like Tiptup as handling is essential to staying on the inside of the track. Press the 'A' button just after the words 'GET READY' fade away to get a starting boost and overtake the cheating Triceratops. When he overtakes you again, wait for a few seconds and then shoot him with a non-homer. For the rest of the race keep shooting him with Homing Missiles until you see three trees to the left of you. Go past them to find a secret tunnel with a zipper inside. Release the accelarator just before you hit the zipper to fly to the other side of the tunnel. At the end of the race, Tricky will slow down and look behind him. This is you're chance to overtake him and unlock the Silver Coin Challenges. After you've completed all four levels coming first collecting all 8 Silver Coins then you'll have to race against Tricky again!!! This time he will be alot faster and trees will fall down in your path at the start of the race. Also, there won't be a zipper inside the shortcut tunnel. As soon as you've completed the Trophy Race using Pipsy (who else!!!) then there is only one thing to do, find the key to T.T.'s Challenge level. The key to Fire Mountain is located on a stone with a Rareware logo at the start of Ancient Lake. It is hidden in full view to the right of the track. On Fire Mountain you'll have to swoop down into the center of the course and grab three eggs and place them in your basket. The first player to successfully hatch three eggs will win the first piece of the T.T. Amulet. Watch out for your fellow egg snatchers who'll swoop down and steal your eggs.

WORLD TWO: SNOWFLAKE MOUNTAIN

BEST RACERS:

SNOWFLAKE MOUNTAIN SNOWBALL VALLEY BLUEY THE WALRUS

WALRUS COVE FROSTY VILLAGE ICICLE PYRAMID

The battle with Bluey the Walrus is by far the easiest in the game as long as I'm concerned. All you have to do is pick a Heavyweight character and basically just slide down the course. There are absolutely no shortcuts in this race but hey, who needs them anyway!! On the second race, giant snowballs will roll across the valley after the first cave. Although this is a problem, it's easy compared with Bluey's increased speed. Just make sure that you catch as many balloons as you can and try to press the 'R' button around corners alot. Pipsy is again, the best racer for the Trophy Race. My favourite level in the entire game however is Icicle Pyramid, Snowflake Mountain's Challenge Level. The key to Icicle Pyramid can be found to the left of the starting point on Snowball Valley. It is hidden in a small cave in full view. The idea of Icicle Pyramid is simple, just blast the hell out of each other! You will start off with 8 bananas and every time you get hit by one of your three opponents you will lose two of them. The last person to survive will win yet another piece of the mysterious T.T. Amulet.

WORLD THREE: SHERBET ISLAND

BEST RACERS:

WHALE BAY CRESCENT ISLAND BUBBLER THE OCTOPUS

PIRATE LAGOON TREASURE CAVES DARKWATER BEACH

Now, Bubbler the Octopus is the most annoying cheating little two-faced piece of seafood scum to ever have walked the face of an N64 game. He will block you off at every corner making sure that he uses his evil mines of destruction to block or slow you down. Providing that you only make a couple of mistakes throughout the first 2 laps using a couple of Homing Missiles to make up for them, you should be able to finish Bubbler off on the last few feet of the third lap by stocking up on red balloons and firing 10 Missiles whilst you pass him. He may seem impossible to start with but once you get the hang of dodging the mines, you should be able to beat him with ease. The second time that you race him, a few of the islands will have balloons missing and he will fire deadly bubbles instead of mines. If you bump in to one of these then you've definately lost the race. Use the same principle of dodging and firing and you'll soon be passing bubbler on your way to victory!!! Don't ask me why but Timber seemed to be the best option for beating Bubbler. Because most of Sherbet Island is mostly made up of Hovercraft levels, it is better to choose a heavyweight character like Banjo for the Trophy Race. He'll just cruise through the Hovercraft levels and you can just hope for the best on the easy Car levels. The key to Darkwater Beach (the T.T. Challenge Level) is hidden in Crescent Island. Using the Hovercraft, go into the water to the left of the start line and continue forward until you reach a small cave containing the key. The idea of Darkwater Beach is just the same as Icicle Pyramid only using the Hovercraft. Just keep on pressing the 'R' button whilst playing with Banjo and just blast the smithereens out of your opponents. The last player on the beach is awarded with a third piece of the Mysterious T.T. Amulet.

WORLD FOUR: DRAGON FOREST

BEST RACERS:

BOULDER CANYON WINDMILL PLAINS SMOKEY THE DRAGON

GREENWOOD VILLAGE HAUNTED WOODS SMOKEY CASTLE

Just like Bubbler, Smokey the Dragon may seem impossible at first but when you get the hang of dodging his trail of fire that he leaves behind him, it should be easy to get ahead of him on the first lap. Simply collect two red balloons from the first cave, fire the Homing Missile when you get out into the open, collect a blue balloon from inside the windmill and boost ahead of Smokey on the next turn. After this little maneuvre, it should be easy to stay ahead of the cheating son of a cheater with blue balloons. There are two things to remember for the rest of the race though. One is to keep on pressing the 'R' button no matter what happens and another is to remember that if you let go of the accelarator just before you boost, you will go alot faster. You can afford to make a surprising amount of mistakes with this boss. The second time though is much tougher as many vital balloons are missing and his firey breath is a poisonous green colour and even more dangerous. As long as you use Pipsy, you should be able to collect whatever balloons there are and simply boost ahead of Smokey on wide open areas (i.e. not the caves). Because of Pipsy's excellent ability to pilot the Plane and Car, it is alot better to use her to steam ahead on three of the levels and just prey that she makes it through Boulder Canyon in one piece!!! The key to the Challenge Level, Smokey Castle is hidden in Boulder Canyon above the bridge just after the first spiniing log. Go to the side of the bridge where the bell is and stock up on blue balloons and line up yourself with the bell and the bridge. Hit the bell, fire your boost and you will land on a small platform where there are a few bananas and the key. Smokey Castle has the same principal as Fire Mountain. Drive around the castle in a car collecting bananas and putting them in a character-labelled treasure chest on the top floor. The first player to place 10 bananas in their treasure chest wins the final piece of T.T.'s Amulet.

WIZPIG'S FIRST STRIKE

BEST RACER:

Once you have beaten Smokey and earned the final piece of the Wizpig Amulet then the big stone head in the centre of the Overworld will be coloured in and the mouth will open. Providing that you have all of the Trophies from the four worlds, a frog with a feather on its head will appear near the head. Squash it with your car to reveal Drumstick, a secret charcter!!! Although it is recommended that you try Drumstick out against Wizpig, it is not advisable to try and beat Wizpig with him. Wizpig will race you on foot in an unseen part of the Overworld and because of Pipsy's Excellent Handling, it is better to use her for the race. As long as you manage to get ahead of Wizpig early in the race, it should be easy to stay ahead of him using the few boosts scattered around the course. Another thing is that if you're right in front of Wizpig then he doesn't squash you like all the other bosses do but he actually pushes you up the course. As long as you avoid falling in a small stretch of water near a bridge during the middle of the race, you should be able to make pork scratchings out of that lump of blubber with ease. What the hell was all the fuss about eh?

WORLD FIVE: FUTURE FUN LAND

BEST RACERS:

SPACEDUST ALLEY STAR CITY WIZPIG STRIKES BACK

DARKMOON CAVERNS SPACEPORT ALPHA

So you've beaten Wizpig, restored freedom to Timber's Island and made some Pork Kebabs to put on the Barbecue. What now? Well, after you've beaten Wizpig the first time you'll find out that we haven't seen the last of that oversized sausage yet as he flies his Wizpig Fighter into the sky. So, you think we'll have to wait until DKR2 to find out eh? WRONG! Providing you've beaten Wizpig once and got all of the Trophies, you can go up to the bilboard in the Overworld and honk your horn at it. When you do, you see yourself go inside the lighthouse nearby and get blasted off to Future Fun Land: The Secret World. Although it looks pretty cool, Future Fun Land doesn't have any Challenge Level and you need to get the entire T.T. Amulet plus all 47 balloons in the game to access its boss behind the mysterious T.T. Door. Once you have all 47 balloons, it is advisable that you try to beat the ghost of T.T. on every race in the game to access T.T. himself, yet another secret character. This is a very annoying job, but it is worth it to get the best player in the game by far. He can outrun even Wizpig if they're pitted against each other. The boss is of course, Wizpig back for a rematch. But this time, your on his home turf and he uses every trick he can to his advantage. He races you on a very dangerous rocket which boosts him ahead of you before the race has officially started. Use a starting boost to catch up with him and remember that one rule to beating bosses with the Plane, press the 'R' button. This course is filled with every trap in the book including Wizpig Fighters with their deadly missiles, huge terrifying asteroids and electrifying laser bolts which stop you in a long agonising cave. The best place to overtake Wizpig is when you see a massive Wizpig head similar to the one in the Overworld. Underneath the head is a blue balloon which is a must to collect if you are to do this right. Slow down and fire the boost just before you enter the long cave. It is here that Wizpig will collect the power from the laser bolts and slow down to your pace, unable to overtake you. Stay close to the walls for the rest of the race remembering not to let go of 'R'. With T.T., you should be able to keep ahead of Wizpig for the reat of the race with ease. If you find T.T.'s massive clock head too big for avoiding obstacles, you can always cheat a bit by typing in TEENYWEENIES as a Magic Code to shrink T.T.'s head. Once you have defeated Wizpig for the second time, he will hopelessly bounce off course into an asteroid. WAHOO! You have now restored peace to the wonderful land of Timber's Island and got rid of that big bacon rasher forever........or have you?

Now, you will have access to ADVENTURE TWO, which allows you to play all of the levels again only this time, they are mirrored and alot harder to beat. This is the ultimate challenge for DKR players.
