History: Growing up Miya was repulsed by the prejudice she experienced as a Japanese-American in the days before WWII. She traveled to Japan and pledged herself to the Imperial Japanese government. She served with the navy under the code-name Tsunami, where her tidal wave powers proved quite useful. She was sent to California to inspire an uprising among other Japanese-Americans. She came in conflict with Liberty Belle and Starman I.

Tsunami and Japan's Prince Daka tried to steal Starman's gravity rod. During the ensuing fight with the All-Star Squadron Tsunami witnessed Daka at his most ruthless, and suddenly she refused to help him. She wouldn't side with the Americans either, so she fled to seek her own path.

Tsuami eventually joined the Young All-Stars, a offshoot of the All-Star Squadron. Tsunami and her teammate Neptue Perkins had a daughter named Deborah.

(Aquaman V #23-25) - Atlan contacted Tsunami to help Aquaman in his battle against the Hunters, who had designs on Earth. She brought along her daughter by Neptune Perkin, Deep Blue, and when Atlan commented that the years hadn't touched her she responded that he knew why. The Hunters launched their attack against each city of Atlantis, but were repelled by the heroes. The heroes were unable to save the Atlantean city Brasil, destroyed in another assault. The Hunters went to Washington and offered humanity a golden age, but Aquaman exposed their plan to harrow humanity to achieve their end goal, and the Hunters left Earth after being rejected.
