Powers: Syrene possessed the mystic runestone of Merlin and was one of the most powerful sorceresses to ever live. One spell she frequently used allowed her to time travel.

History: <one million years in the future> Syrene and her father ruled Earth in a time when magic supplanted science. Lord Satanus organized a revolt and killed Ambra, but not before Ambra cast the source of his power, Merlin's runestone, into the distant past. Syrene and Satanus agreed that fighting each other was pointless, so they married and became co-rulers of Earth. Syrene and Satanus traveled back in time to the 20th Century, where the runestone ended up. To utilize it's power they needed an invulnerable being to channel it, and they both decided on using Superman., but before long they were at each other's throats as to who would control the runestone. Satanus defeated Syrene, but she was able to send the runestone further back into the past.

<late 1800s'> Syrene and Satanus again fought over the runestone. Syrene summoned Satan, who dragged Satanus to Hell.

Syrene located the runestone in 14th Century Britain, but was shocked when Satanus showed up with the captive Superman in tow. Syrene used Superman to claim the runestone's power, but Satanus merged with Superman's body and with their combined powers they defeated Syrene and sent her back to her own time.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Syrene's existence was erased from DC continuity.

Syrene received a profile in Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe #23. Who's Who Update '87 #5 confirmed that Syrene was erased from DC continuity post-Crisis.
