The ship crashed in Africa, where the last of the Kryptonians was raided by a tribe of gorillas and given the name Karkan. As Karkan grew he found he had super-powers and created a costume for himself as Super-Savage after conquering a mighty serpent. Savage was weakened by kryptonite and fell captive to scientist Karl Davis, who planned to exhibit the boy. His niece Toni helped Savage escape, and she had him fly her to Metropolis where Savage made his new home, despite being distrusted and feared by the populace. Savage helped Toni foil her aunt Vera, who tried to steal her inheritance, and together they discovered the legacy of her father Eric Davis, an underground hq hidden beneath a giant statue commemorating the value of science. Together Toni and Savage helped prevent a subway disaster, but Savage was rewarded by being fired at by policemen that had orders to shoot him on sight. Super-Savage disliked the city and human society, finding it cruel and harsher than his jungle, so he returned to Africa.
Super-Savage and his Earth were erased from continuity by the Crisis on infinite Earths.
