History (Superman I #298) - An unnamed man decided to turn to a life of crime, but thought he was too smart and too great to be a petty thug. He learned that Superman derived his powers from Earth's yellow sun, and was inspired to invent a battlesuit powered by solar energy, and dubbed himself Solarman. He made his supervillain debut in Metropolis. After Superman thwarted a robbery Solarman used his mind over matter powers to attract the stolen loot to him before disappearing. After a successful crime spree he got overconfident, and demanded that Superman meet him in battle. They fought fiercely until Superman overloaded his armor with the infra-red radiation from his x-ray vision. Solarman's suit was destroyed, and he tried to convince Superman that the whole "supervillain" thing was just a gag, but the man of steel wasn't buying it.
