History: (Guy Gardner: Warrior #27 (fb)) - <early 1950s> Sledge was a prototype clone created by the Quorum, who planned on leasing a series of soldiers like Sledge to the U.S. military. Sledge was field tested, but deemed unsuitable because after he wiped out the enemy he killed the soldiers he was fighting alongside. The U.S. military wanted Sledge destroyed, but the Quorum felt they could eventually find a use for him, so they put him in suspended animation and buried him underneath the Washington Monument.

(Guy Gardner: Warrior #27) - The Quorum reactivated Sledge, and upon awakening he went into a rage and started destroying the Washington Monument. The heroes Guy Gardner and Steel were nearby, and Sledge attacked them as well. The heroes defeated Sledge, but the Washington Monument was destroyed in the process. Quorum agents, posing as the F.B.I. were soon on the scene, and collected Sledge.
