History

(Identity Crisis #1) - Slam was among the number of heroes who attended Sue Dibny's funeral.

(Catwoman III #41) - Three prostitutes were savagely murdered in the East End, and Catwoman prowled the streets to find the killer. She caught Guillermo Duran in the act of attacking another woman, and they fought, but she was forced to let him escape when she saw that the girl, Virna, was still alive. Catwoman took her to the hospital, where she was treated by Leslie Thompkins. Slam Brady and Holly Robinson showed up to help her investigate the case, and Holly knew that all the girls targeted worked for Romanian crimelord Guillermo Duran. Catwoman confronted Dragos, who legitimately didn't know that his henchman Duran was out to get his girls. He said he cared about his girls, and Catwoman called him on his bull, saying she knew he was a slaver. After some threats from her Dragos promised to help her investigation. Slam learned that Dragos ran a dog-fighting ring, and suspected it was connected to the killings. He interrogated pound worker Curt Harris, who sold strays to Dragos, and roughed him up until he revealed the location of the next fight. Catwoman caught Duran in the midst of another attack, but he eluded her again. The victim was dead, and vowed that no more women would die in East End under her watch.

(Catwoman III #51, 52) - Slam was visiting the East End and ran into Holly Robinson and Karon. They chatted, while, unbeknownst to them Black Mask was stalking them. He'd planned on kidnapping Holly to get at Catwoman, but decided to snatch Slam instead. Black Mask tied up Slam in his dungeon, and had Angle Man film him as he prepared to torture Slam. Black Mask encouraged Slam to scream and beg, because that made Black Mask's work more enjoyable for him. Smart Bomb finally got approval from Detective Lenahan to break his deep cover, having learned that Black Mask was after Holly. He broke into Black Mask's dungeon, and was shocked to see the nearly lifeless body of his father. He took down Black Mask and Angle Man, and cradled his father. Catwoman arrived in time to see the aftermath. Sam flew Slam to the hospital, and despite his injuries he was tough, and looked to pull through. Sam visited Selina Kyle at home, and she wondered if he'd figured out her secret identity by himself, because he was very much his father's son. He said Slam had a GCPD officer guarding him at the hospital, but Selina said that wouldn't help her, and she'd have to be proactive taking down Black Mask. Sam was off the force for his previous breakin, but agreed to help, breaking the Smart Bomb suit out of evidence. Angle Man had sabotaged the suit, and Sam made a crash landing into a rooftop, barely clinging to life as he was rushed to the hospital. Catwoman visited Slam in the hospital, and even though he was comatose she felt the need to talk to him. She'd almost decided that to keep her friends safe she'd have to take out Black Mask permanently. She broke into Black Mask's penthouse, and shot him in the head, killing him.

(Catwoman III #60 (fb)) - Slam was cleared to leave the hospital, and told Sam he was glad Black Mask had been killed. Sam told him Lenahan suspected Catwoman, and Slam said that was impossible, bragging about how well he knew her. Sam said they had to have a little talk about Catwoman.

(Catwoman III #53) - <one year later> Selina got pregnant, something she never wanted to do because of how dangerous the world was, but admitted to herself that plans changed. She left the East End, and took up residence in the posh Gotham Arms as Irena Dubrovna to cut ties with her past. She still felt an obligation to the East End, and Holly Robinson agreed to train and take her place as the new Catwoman. Selena gave birth, and after her release from the hospital Slam drove by and gave her a lift home. He was curious as to Selina's choice of the name Helena for her girl, and wondered why Holly had a shiner. Selina said Helena rhymed with Irena, and Holly said she ran into a door. Slam grumbled that people kept forgetting he used to be a detective, and told them to enjoy their mysteries.

(Catwoman III #54) - Slam threw back some drinks, and the bartender said he was worried about him because he was visiting the bar much more frequently, but Slam assured him he was fine. Detective Lenahan had some questions for him about Catwoman, and when he denied knowing her Lenahan snapped that he shouldn't insult his intelligence. He showed Slam the morgue pictures of Black Mask, and said his friend wasn't the good person she pretended to be. Slam kept drinking, and ran into prizefighter Ted Grant outside the bar. He told Ted he was a huge fan back in the day, and noted that even though they were the same age Ted looked years younger. Ted said the secret to staying young was to never stop fighting.

(Catwoman III #55) - Selina took Slam out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, and he worried about the price, but she assured him that her checkered past had left her very well off. Selina said he hadn't been acting like himself lately, and he admitted that with all the changes in everyone's lives around him he hadn't changed at all and felt like a relict or a fossil. He just grumbled when she assured him he wasn't that old.

(Catwoman III #56) - Slam was watching "Double Indemnity" in his office when he hallucinated Sam walking in, and Slam commented that after 60 years the movie was as sharp as ever, unlike himself.

(Catwoman III #57) - Slam called Detective Lenahan and demanded to know if Sam was there, but Lenahan promised him he wasn't. Slam grumbled that he knew Sam was on some top-secret mission, but he had a right to talk to his boy.

(Catwoman III #59) - Slam drank himself into a stupor, and Catwoman woke him up to ask for his help since Holly had been arrested by Detective Lenahan, who was trying to pin Black Mask's murder on her. Slam said he couldn't help because he no longer had friends on the force, and expressed hoplessness at how the world had gone to Hell.

(Catwoman III #60, 61) -Slam got disorderly in a bar and was kicked out. He passed out in an alley and dreamed of one of the last times he saw Sam when Film Freak came across him. Film Freak, who saw all life as a movie, told him he was a brilliant character, a bold combination of a drunk played for comedic effect and a world-weary detective turned to the bottle, but he'd better hope something saved him in the next act. A bloody and beaten Slam showed up at Catwoman's apartment, and cradled Helena. He told her they needed to have a conversation about his granddaughter.

(Catwoman III #62) - Selina realized she owed everyone an explanation, and said her life went off the rails when she killed Black Mask. Holly was stupefied, and angry that Selina never told her. Selina said she did what she did to keep her friends safe, and Slam backed her up in her decision. Slam said his son had told him about his love affair with Selina, and he was hurt because they'd been lovers in the past, and felt Selina had traded him in for a younger model. Selina said that wasn't how it went at all, and while they took down the remains of Black Mask's mob they had spontaneous moments of passion. She recounted how Sam died a hero, and Slam thanked her for having been straight with him. He admitted that he'd been heavily medicated since his son died, and had turned back to the bottle, but thought he had a reason to pull himself out of the hole he was in. Selina and Slam cooed over Helena, and Selina said she had her grandfather's eyes.

(Catwoman III #67) - Slam started going to AA, and found the process exhausting, but worth it. He saw a news report about Holly being unmasked by the villain Blitzkrieg, and attacked by Hammer and Sickle. He called Karon after Selina rescued Holly, and Karon had faith Holly would be fine.
