History: (Demon III #20) - King Arthur sent Sir Lancelot and Sir Percival on the Gail Quest to find the Holy Grail Jesus used during the Last Supper. After many adventures they found the Grail, and when Lancelot held it aloft he ascended to Heaven. Percival felt lost, like he no longer had a purpose in life, and went to live a life of solitude in his farmhouse. Merlin approached him, promising a way he could be of great service to King Arthur. Percival readily accepted, and Merlin sent him there and created the Golden Knight from the essence of Percival's purity to guard the Region's sole exit. What Merlin didn't mention to Percival is that his task would never end, and he would serve as the gatekeeper of the Beyond Region forever. Centuries later the Thing-That-Cannot-Die redeemed his past sins by committing virtuous actions, and was allowed by the Golden Knight to see Percival, who handed him a scroll with the spell that would allow him to escape the Region. The demon Etrigan bashed Thing's head in with a rock, stole the spell, and managed to escape his exile in the Region.
