History:
(Batman III #1) - Gordon summoned Batman to tell him that Kobra was in possession of a surface-to-air missile. As they spoke the Kobra terrorist fired, hitting a commercial airplane, and Batman leapt into action. He coordinated with Alfred and Duke, learning that the plane was headed straight towards Kane Plaza. After calculating the trajectory he drove the Batmobile off Robinson Bridge, and hit the eject button. He landed on the plane, and with fuel boosters and his grappling hook he directed it towards the Gulf of Blackgate. Alfred told him the passengers would survive, but for him to pull off the landing he'd be exposed to the full brunt of the crash. Batman knew, and said he had messages for his family in case of such an emergency. He told Duke he could continue his training under Dick Grayson if he wished. He worried if his parents would be proud, and if this was indeed a good death, and Alfred assured him on both accounts. Moments before impact two superhuman figures stopped the impact. They introduced themselves as Gotham and Gotham Girl and said they were there to save the city.
