History: (Sensation Comics I #18) - As a youth Steve Styles stole from his mother, and when she gave him a second chance to tell her what he'd done he refused and was punished. As an adult he graduated from petty crime to armed robbery. A police officer interrupted one of his robberies and gave him a chance to surrender, but Steve shot the officer. He was caught and sentenced to seven years in jail. After being released the judge told him society was giving him a second chance. Noticing the "second chance" theme in his life Steve took the identity of Second Chance and began a blackmail scheme. He showed potential victims he could kill them at any time, firing suction-cup bullets at a victim or throwing a fake grenade into their home. He then promised them a second chance at living if they paid him large sums of money. Some people complied, but those who didn't were killed. Second Chance didn't offer third chances. When Chance threatened John Winthrop he contacted detective Stretch Skinner, and Skinner's pal Wildcat got involved. Wildcat and Chance fought, but Chance managed to knock out the hero and escape. They met again when Chance targeted Ted Grant for blackmail, never knowing Grant was Wildcat's alter ego. Chance and Wildcat fought atop the State Building. Chance almost fell to his death, but Wildcat saved him. He repaid Wildcat by shooting at him, but his bullet struck a wall and ricocheted, killing him. Second Chance had finally used up all his second chances.
