Powers: Sarge Steel was one of the world's greatest soldiers, decisive and intelligent. He was a master strategist, detective and martial arts fighter. His left hand was a steel prosthesis.History: Steel was born the ultimate soldier. As a youth he enlisted in the Vietnam War, and his superiors noticed his talents and sent him to special forces. When he captured notorious Ivan Chong, Chong swore sevenge. One of his soldiers lobbed a grenade at Steel, and it exploded, destroying his left hand. Sarge was honorably discharged, and after months of rehabilitation he regained use of his left arm, and acquired a steel prosthetic hand. Using his reputation in the military he established himself as a successful P.I.
(Spectre III #21 (fb)) - The Kobra Cult retrieved the Spear of Destiny from the Soviet official who had it, and assassinated him. Nightshade stole the Spear from Kobra, and handed it over to Sarge Steel, and it was inventoried and stored away.
(Damage #2) - Iron Munro rejected Sarge Steel’s numerous offers to come back to work, but finally accepted when Steel told him the Baron had killed one of his agents. Sarge wanted him to stop the Baron from introducing Stardust, a nanite-based drug, onto the streets of Georgia.
(Damage #4) - Sarge advised a senator not to subsidize government projects to Symbolix because they would have no oversight, but he knew the senator would ignore his advice. Sarge learned that the Baron hacked into the Bureau and learned that Sarge had put Iron Munro on his trail.
(Arsenal Special #1) - Sarge Steel approached Arsenal, knowing he was light on funds after the Titans disbanded. He wanted Arsenal to retrieve Sing Lu, a former drug runner he said was involved in dealing weapons of mass destruction, from Hong Kong. Sarge had lied, wanting to put the retired Lu on trial for purely political reasons to please his higher-ups. He spread word to Lu that Arsenal was an assassin targeting his daughters. Lu and Arsenal both realized they'd been duped, so when Arsenal handed over a trenchcoated man to Steel and received his paycheck he revealed that he'd brought his contact Feng back from Hong Kong for a life in the states. He put a knife to Sarge Steel's throat and said he didn't like being treated like a puppet.
