He was able to have replacement body parts made and installed. As a soldier he was armed with a sword and armor.History: (Fables # 46) - Gepetto carved Rodney from a tree in the Enchanted Forest to be one of his Wooden Soldiers in his war against the Homelands. He had a decorated military career, and showed great loyalty to Gepetto's cause of ruling the Homelands. In one battle he got wounded and had to have a leg replaced by the company wood carver. Luckily for Rodney, the normal chap who did these sorts of things was on leave. This was how he met June, a fellow animated puppets. Their relationship blossomed into a beautiful love story. He began to research the way humans acted when they were in love and how their bodies worked. He would walk with June and read poetry to her, as if they were in some sort of human courting ritual. Once he realized June felt the same towards him, the pair of them decided to try out the human mating rituals Rodney had read about. Unfortunately, human mating didn’t translate well into wooden dolls, so they found themselves at an impasse. Rodney then decided to write directly to Gepetto and ask that him and June be turned into humans (“meat” as they affectionate referred to them as) so they could feel real love. Sadly, for Rodney and June, the letter was confiscated before it could be sent. All outgoing mail from the camp has to be read and censored. Captain Arturo reads the letter and ripped it in twain, then sent him to his barracks until further notice.
(Fables # 47) - While held in his chambers, Rodney's guard came in and started asking him how he could possibly want to be transformed into meat. The guard went on to talk about disgusting acts of horror, none of which are untrue about humans. Rodney, understandably upset, kicked him out and told him to go back to simply standing guard. Captain Arturo, apparently having softened on the idea of two soldiers being turned in to meat, went and got June frorm her cabin, and relieved the guard. He told Rodney and June that they must go to their father and put his mind at ease about these rumors of a letter (that clearly never existed) from a wooden soldier asking to be turned human that could so easily have fallen into enemy hands. They traversed many lands, and out of fear mostly, were given honors and gifts every place they went. Finally, they arrived at The Sacred Grove, and Gepetto's house. And as the saying goes, ask and ye shall receive. Gepetto told them both that turning wood into flesh came at a cost and instructed them to weigh this decision over night, which they did. The transformation process took weeks, but finally, Rodney and June were flesh and blood. They were married in an elaborate ceremony, presided over by The Adversary himself. Not long after, when June had conceived, it came time to pay the dear price for their desire. They were to become spies for the Adversary. They were to live in the mundy world, not far away from Fabletown and learn everything they possibly could. They were given a journal that June wrote in. This journal was how they transmitted their information back to the Adversary. Everything June wrote could be read by one of their superiors. Occasionally, there would be instructions written in there by someone else, tasks for the two of them to carry out.
(Fables # 52) - A great meeting was called in The Empire, and as a spy for The Adversary, Rodney was summoned to give his input on what to do about Fabletowns recent act of hostility. The Emperor felt that Rodeny's views were important because he’s been living in the mundy world, as was his mission, long enough to know their ins and outs and what plan might be the best form of attack.
(Fables # 53) - After the Snow Queen gaves a very detailed proposal about what to do with Fabletown, Rodney asked to speak to Pinocchio in private. The two of them thought her plan (a four-phase mission to bring down all of humanity and use the mundy world as their personal prison for defectors and the conquered) was going too far. Rodney was convinced that Pinocchio had a better shot at putting their mutual dislike of the Snow Queen's proposal on the table than he did. Pinocchio agreed to, after a drink, bring the matter to the group.
(Fables # 55) - After Pinocchio did a very long, drawn out, yet convincing monologues of how the mundys would react to the Snow Queens plan, she questioned his loyalty to The Empire. Rodney pointed out that Pinocchio was bound by magic to do whatever was in Gepettos best interest.
