Drexel Rutherford, telling him he'd destroy his imperial dam if he didn't receive vast amounts of money. Rutherford turned him away as a crank, so the Rainmaker made various tragedies befall Rutherford and his workers. Frustrated that Rutherford wouldn't budge, Rainmaker set fire to his house. Superman saved Rutherford and his wife, and Rutherford admitted that he was being blackmailed. Superman checked on the imperial dam just as the Rainmaker set off explosives at the Rutherford office near the dam. He saved the employees, and was approached by one of Rainmaker's goons, who warned him to stop interfering in his boss' plans. Superman made it clear he wouldn't be bullied, and coerced the thug into revealing where the Rainmaker's hideout was. Superman confronted the villain, who used paralysis-gas to stun him. Rainmaker bragged that he could make or destroy the world, and activated his rain-machine, creating a tremendous storm. Superman shook off the paralysis gas, and when the dam burst he dug a trench to divert the water into an arid valley. The storm downed the plane of Superman's friend, lady reporter Lois Lane, and the Rainmaker, seeing his plans unravel, tried to take her hostage. She refused to be a victim, and struggled to free herself from him. Rainmaker fled, and Superman pursed him, but the villain smacked his head into a rock, dying instantly.
Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Rainmakers existence was erased from DC continuity.
