History: (Gunfire #2, 3) - Solomon Perggia was a hitman in Venice, and during a territorial dispute he was shot twice in the chest, activating his metagene and giving him the power to dissolve and absorb organic matter. Over time the impurities he absorbed started to kill him, and he contacted shady industrialist Gunther Van Horn, who owed him a favor. Van Horn designed a battlesuit to control Solomon's power, but betrayed the hitman by designing experimental weapons like the cellular de-integrator based on his power to sell to the highest bidder. Gunther died, and Perggia sent his man Carlton Slater to pressure his son Andrew into handing over the weapons. Andrew had no idea what Carlton was talking about, and ordered him out, hating to be bullied. Andrew learned about his father's shady business, and in his superhero identity of Gunfire, foiled Perggia's henchman Ricochet from stealing the CDI, and then destroyed it. Perggia decided to take matters into his own hands, donning a battlesuit and dubbing his supervillain identity Purge. Gunfire destroyed the last of his father's weapons, angering Purge, who saw them as his property. He tried to kill Gunfire by draining his life-force, but Gunfire's power to turn inorganic matter into energy activated, and the feedback blew up Purge.
Comments: Created by Len Wein & Steve Erwin.
Purge had a cameo in Gunfire #5.
