PowersPrivate Pete was a poorly trained soldier with a below-average intellect.

History(Star Spangled Comics I #3) - Private Pete's commanding officer hollered at him during maneuvers, and when Pete saw that the war games were being played by labeling mock items he pasted a sign on himself declaring him general.

(Star Spangled Comics I #3) - Private Pete woke up late for dress inspection, so he arrived in his underwear. He explained to the commanding officer that his doctor told him he needed to get plenty of sun to stay healthy.

(Star Spangled Comics I #4) - Pete's uniform was at the cleaners, so he arrived at the parade ground in his cousin's doorman's uniform.

(Star Spangled Comics I #4) - Pete was assigned duty as a bugler, and complained to each and every one of his officers about having to get up fifteen minutes early.

(Leading Comics #3) - Pete's Sarge told him to run to the toolshed to get something to release some men trapped in a tank. Bonehead Pete returned to his sergeant with a can opener.
