(DC Comics Presents #32 (fb)) - Mark Merlin confronted the Gargoyle, but he was prepared for the hero and used his shrink-beam on him. Merlin ended up in the other dimensional realm Ra, where he met immortal ancient Egyptian scientists Kranak and Rimah. Mark gained the power of mind-over-matter by releasing a six-sided replica of the sun from a cat-god statue. He missed Elsa, but Kranak told him he couldn’t return home, not as Mark Merlin. Kranak used a potion to reincarnate Merlin on Earth as the descendant of Ra, an Egyptian prince who died 4,000 years ago. The reborn Prince Ra-Man retained Merlin’s powers and memories, but was a different person; the real Mark Merlin was dead. Ra-Man met with Elsa and told her Mark had died battling the Gargoyle, and he’d arrived to take his place.
(DC Comics Presents #32) - Prince Ra-Man exchanged bodies with his cat Memakata to finally defeat his nemesis Doctor-7. He returned to Mystery Hill to return to his body, but couldn’t find it. His mind had become cat-like, and he forgot that he’d hidden it in a stage-magic vanishing cabinet. He became more animalistic, and wandered the streets, forgetting his human identity, until he saw Elsa Magusson on the television show daybreak. She discussed her theory that Mark Merlin wasn’t dead, but had assumed the identity of Prince Ra-Man. He found Elsa, and she helped him return to his rightful body. He explained how he’d gone from being Mark Merlin to Ra-Man, and that the man she loved was dead. Elsa broke down, but there was nothing Ra-Man could do for the woman he once loved.
