Powers: The Stranger had vast supernatural abilities, including flight, telekinesis, projecting mystic bolts, mastery over time and transmutation of matter.

History: Judas Iscariot betrayed his friend Jesus, and wracked by guilt he committed suicide. In the afterlife he appeared before the Council of Wizards, who designed a special punishment for him, since being damned to Hell was deemed too lenient.

(Swamp Thing VI #1, 2) - The Phantom Stranger appeared to Swamp Thing in his Louisiana bayou, and warned him that the Parliament of Trees was quite angry with him for ignoring them over the past couple of months, and the Stranger reminded him of his responsibilities. Alec said they'd get over it, and said he'd gladly trade his power and responsibilities to be human again. Phantom Stranger told him to watch what he wished for and vanished. Phantom Stranger also made allusions to dark times coming, and after Swamp Thing put down the zombie Lazlo Wormwood, he asked the Stranger if that was the darkness he hinted at. Stranger told him not even close, and Swamp Thing said he was being obnoxious.
