History: Roy carried on the detective tradition started by his father Roy Raymond, TV Detective.
(Batman & The Outsiders Special #1, Outsiders IV #15) - On Raymond's television show he pursued criminals as the 'Manstalker.' He saw no conflict of interest in delivering justice and entertainment at the same time. He tracked a pair of psychotic kidnappers to Keystone City, and after taking a few lumps he pushed them down a flight of stairs. He rescued the little girl they had in captivity, and returned to his TV van, where he was met by Alfred Pennyworth, who'd come to recruit him for the new Outsiders. Roy was given the Batmanesque identity Owlman in tribute to the apparently deceased detective. Alfred assembled the Outsiders and explained Batman's vision, that they all represented aspects of his personality, and that there would always be a 'Batman' outside Gotham. He required them to go off the grid, cutting off contact with everyone in their lives and becoming true Outsiders. They'd be a frontline group, constantly in the line-of-fire and constantly risking their lives. Owlman revealed his identity to the rest of the team so they'd trust him. he got flak about being a glory hound, and had an outburst, telling them he was a great detective in his own right. Alfred dismissed them to consider his offer, and Raymond threw a hissy fit on set, and refused to renew his contract, an effective way of cutting his ties. The next day all of Alfred's recruits rejoined the team and he told them they'd be confronting the Outsiders greatest enemy, who they'd never met face-to-face.
(Batman: Battle for the Cowl: Man-Bat #1) - Owlman and the Outsiders helped deal with the chaos in Gotham, and found Man-Bat, who was desperately searching for his wife Francine. When they tried to detain him he hit them with a sonic scream and flew off. The Outsiders later cleaned up after a fight between Man-Bat and Dr. Phosphorus, who'd captured Francine. Alfred noted that Kirk Langstrom could now transform into Man-Bat without his serum, and this complicated matters.
