Powers: The Norfulthing was a near-mindless elemental that assumed the shape of fearful beasts, possessed superhuman strength, speed and durability, and had claws and fangs to rend targets. The elemental was empowered by fear.

History: (Hellblazer #11 (fb)) - <1978> Occultist Alex Logue abused his daughter Astra, and forced her into the mystic scene. One day the torment at her father and his occultist friend’s hands was too much for her, and she instinctively summoned Norfulthing, a terror elemental. Norfulthing mutilated Alex and his friends, and Astra went insane, but still felt a love for the beast. John Constantine and the Newcastle Crew got word of the disturbance, and investigated. They put Astra in a trance, and after learning her story, decided to summon and bind a demon to destroy the terror elemental. John and Judith tried to summon Sagatana, but the spell failed. Names were important in magic, and the spell described the demon Nergal, so he decided to chastise John and his friends. He possessed Astra, and ripped apart the Norfulthing. Nergal, keeping his true name from John, told him of his failure, and since he’d helped John without being commanded, decided to take Astra to Hell with him.
