History:  (Constantine: The Hellblazer #8 (fb, BTS)) - In the 1980s there was an upheaval in Hell, and Neron used the opportunity to back-stab and negotiate his way from minor demon to Arch-Duke of Hell. He appeared on Earth in the 1990s increasing his wealth to unimaginable degrees through the soul trade.

(Constantine: The Hellblazer #8, 9) - Neron and the demonic banker Mister Rumor bought up vast swathes of NYC, bringing up demons from Hell as investors and clients, and increasing the amount of supernatural activity in the city. They tricked Papa Midnite into selling the Midnight Club, separating him from the totem that gave him power over the club and his army of zombies. They were interested in the Hellgate that powered the club that could serve as an easy access to NYC from Hell. John Constantine and Midnite infiltrated the club, but Rumor recognized them and removed the illusion they were using to pose as demons. Neron had John and Midnite taken to the city of Dis in Hell to be tortured by demons until they broke and sold their souls. Neron revealed his plans to make NYC into an infernal marketplace, opening wide the world and powers of magic to those who paid him in souls. John was defiant, and Midnite said he would not forgive Neron not dealing directly with him instead of stealing from him. John and Midnite managed to escape with the help of sub-demon Blythe.

(Constantine: The Hellblazer #10) - Neron's demons started travelling to Earth and taking over the magical community. Neron promised them endless opportunity for souls in exchange for their loyalty, and vowed to make Hell great again.
