History: The death of Flash's Rogues Gallery unleashed Neron from Hell.

(Spectre III #35) - Neron approached the Spectre-Force with an offer, a chance to be free of its' human host again for not interfering in Neron's plans. The Spectre-Force accepted, and Corrigan cried to Heaven. Having neutralized one threat, as the Spectre-Force was concerned with razing Jerusalem to avenge Jesus' death, he turned to Madame Xanadu, offering her her old power in exchange for her soul. She accepted and told Neron she'd tricked him, since she would never die after having cheated Death at cards. Neron was just happy to learn he could temp gray souls in accepting his bargains. Xanadu summoned demonic servants, but she soon lost control of them.

(JLA #6) - There was discord in Heaven, as Asmodel and the Bull Host pursued the angel Zauriel to Earth. Neron saw a chance to claim souls, and called the Demons Three to assist him. The JLA raced to protect Zauriel, but Neron trapped Flash in the teleporter connecting the JLA Watchtower on the moon to Earth. As Superman tried to free him the Demons pulled the moon from its orbit towards Earth. Flash escaped, and Superman saved the moon, gravely disappointing the Demons. Neron told them he was just setting pieces in motion for a game of damnation. He showed them the JLA defending Zauriel, who ended up in the apartment of a woman he was in love with. Neron said that they d jist sit back and see someone damn themselves.

(Day of Judgment #1) - After Asmodel failed to storm Heaven Neron gladly turned against him and imprisoned him in Hell, binding him and giving him over to demons to torture. Asmodel escaped and merged with the Spectre-Force thanks to the Demon Etrigan, and turned Neron's city of Dis and Neron himself into ice.

(Day of Judgment #4 (BTS), 5)) - Neron possessed Superman, who'd traveled to Hell with a band of heroes to reignite the hellfire pits, resulting in Asmodel's demon army being forced to return to Hell. Back on Earth the soul of Green Lantern Hal Jordan took the Spectre-Force from Asmodel, and Neron tried to claim the Spectre-Force for himself. Hal defeated him and sent him back to Hell. Neron was punished by the lords of Hell for using the realm for his own advancement, and they demoted him from a prince to a rhymer.
