History: (Angeltown #1 (fb), 2 (fb)) - Nat Hollis was the son of police officer Earl Hollis, and became a football star in high school, getting numerous scholarship offers from colleges. Earl started to worry about being there for his son after his partner was murdered, and asked his dad Obadiah to keep Nate on the straight and narrow if anything happened to him.

(Angeltown #3) - Nate became a DA, but his career came to an end during a controversial celebrity murder trial.

(Angeltown #1, 2) - PI Nate Hollis was called in by his old flame Monica Orozco, a defense attorney representing L.A. Comets basketball star Theophus Burnett. His ex-wife Allison Dillon had been brutally murdered, and he'd disappeared. Adding to the police's suspicion of him was the fact that he'd made a scene at a book signing for his ex's tell all "Off The Court." Orozco told him she was looking into his old boss DA Sam Pope, and Hollis said he hoped she nailed him to the wall. She brought up the anniversary of his father Earl's death, but he didn't want to talk about it. Nate talked to Burnett's Comets teammates, and Toasty, a girl he'd been seeing, leading him to an apartment in Los Feliz that Burnett rented under a false name. He was trailed by goons working for mobster Paul Teddy, and said their boss wanted to meet with Natre. Nate fought them off, but received a number of injuries and had to get stitched up at the hospital. He went with his grandfather Obadiah to visit Earl's grave, and Obediah vowed they'd find his killer. That night Nate met his lover Kristy, who he felt compatible with because she was strong-willed and knew what she wanted. He received a call from Theophus, and heard a gun goo off over the line. Nate doubted it was actually Theophus on the line, but went to Los Feliz to investigate, and was again jumped by Teddy's goons. He beat them down and Teddy told him to relax, saying Theophus owed him money and he'd reward Nate handsomely if he led him to the baller. Nate refused, and met with Monica, saying Teddy was way too worked up for his issue to be a simple gambling debt. Monica confirmed his suspicion that Teddy was at one of Theophus' wild parties, which had been taped, and the video evidence showed something compromising the gangster. She implored Nate to find her client before Teddy or the police did. Nate returned to Los Feliz, where Detective Regus was investigating the scene, and got a tip from Theophus' landlady Ms. Graham that Nate had been snooping around. Regus discovered Theophus' video recording equipment, but no tapes, and Nate saw Graham sneak the tapes, which she'd taken from the apartment, into the trunk of her car. Nate stole the tapes and watched them to gather evidence. Graham was on the tapes, explaining why she didn't want them seen, and he saw Thophus in a three-way with his ex and Monica, and during the tape Monica clearly showed a hatred for Allison.

(Angeltown #3-5) - Detective Regus pulled Nate into his cop car and demanded he stop interfering into his search for Theophus. Nate got under his skin by calling him Pope's lackey and Regus hit him. Nate went to the library to do some microfice research, looking through old articles in the Clarion, an African American newspaper, and found news about Burnett opening a rec center with his aunt Flo, who lived in Inglewood. He went on a stakeout outside her home, and ran into his girlfriend Tyra. She asked him if he was still seeing Kristry, and he reminded her they had an open relationship. He spotted someone going into Flo's house through the back way, and when he followed he ran into Flo and Theophus, who shoved a gun in his face. Nate tried to convince Theophus that Monica had his best interests in mind helping him figure out how best to turn himself into the police, although Flo protested he wouldn't get a fair trial and wanted him to leave the country by boat. Theophus assured Nate he was innocent, but when Nate asked him about Paul Teddy Theophus was worried he'd been followed and took off running. Nate pursued him, but a group of Comets fans saw them and started throwing bottles at Nate, causing a near riot as the baller got away. After the confrontation Nate was hauled downtown, and Pope and Regus met with him, threatening to charge him with obstruction of justice and having his PI liscence revoked if he didn't stop going after Burnett. Nate accused Pope of being so involved because he hoped a conviction of Burnett would help his bid for governor, and reminded Pope that he'd already sunk his career once to make a name for himself. Nate met with Theophus' college coach Fowler, who'd staid close with him over the years, and he admitted his former student was at his beach house. He agreed to talk to him, and have Nate convince him to give himself up, but Teddy's men were shadowing Nate, and found out where their target was. The bounty hunter Deuce was also looking for Theophus, and she engaged Teddy's goons in combat, alerting Nate to their presence. He shot one of them in self-defense, and although he'd killed before he thought it was a good time to take an introspective moment and remember how fragile life was. Theophus handed himself over to Regis, and Nate told Regis his theory that Teddy wanted him dead because Toasty, who Nate had learned was the gangster's daughter, was on one of his sex tapes. His theory fell apart when Teddy's chauffer driver provided an alibi, but more investigation revealed that Allison was going to use the tapes to blackmail Toasty, who'd killed her. Nate got her to confess, with Kristy's photog recording the admission. Nate was satisfied he'd wrapped up the case, and told Obadiah it was time to go back to investigating his father's murder.
