History: Josh was a troubled youth who experienced discrimination because of his Vietnamese heritage. When he was attacked by a Space Parasite his metagene was activated, and he became the superhero Mongrel. As Mongrel he helped Hawkman II battle the Space Parasites.

Mongrel joined a number of other heroes who gained their powers from attacks by the Space Parasites as the Blood Pack.
