(New Adventures of Superboy #17, 18) - “Moosie” Draper used speech class to rail that people shouldn’t honor Superboy until he’d fough a supervillain equal to himself in power. Draper was trying to impress Lana, but she was repulsed by his jealousy of Superboy, and although she’d always been nice to him even even though she was never interested in Draper, she told him off. Draper did made Clark think, and in order to test himself he programmed an experimental Superboy Robot, Kator, as an anemy and unleashed him on Superboy Day, fighting him and getting the worst of the encounter, but loving every minute of being challenged. The Kents were angry with their son, but he assured them that if things got out of hand Kator could be stopped, and he handed over a remote control safety switch to Pa. Kator confronted Clark and Lana, knowing Clark couldn’t reveal his secret identity. He burned his ‘K’ insignia into the park grounds, making it clear he intended to replace Superboy. Draper was hoping that Kator would take out Superboy, and that maybe Lana would fall for him when Kator appeared to him and told him his dreams would come true. Kator predicted that he might not survive his next battle against Superboy, and wanted draper to carry on for him if he perished. Kator brought Superboy into space, far enough away from the range of the safety switch, and tried to kill Superboy by brining him into the trail of a red sun comet, draining his powers. Superboy overcame Kator, and hurled him into a yellow sun, disintegrating him. A device Kator gave Draper activated, leading him to a cave with advanced technology created by Kator. The machines gave Draper all of Kator’s powers, and as the new Kator he lured Superboy and Lana to a sportsfield. He was determined to kill Superboy and win Lana’s heart, and the super-battle went against Superboy. He fled to the Kents, where Pa used the safety switch meant for the original Kator to knock out Carl’s powers. Superboy used the mind-prober to erase Draper’s memories of his brief career in villainy.Comments: Created by
