(Mortal Kombat X #9, 12) - Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage traveled to Outworld looking for their daughter Cassie Cage and her friend Jacqui Briggs. Kotal promised that, as someone who lost his family, he would never kidnap someone's children. Evidence pointed to Erron Black, who was the intermediary between Kotal Kahn and the Black Dragon, and Kotal Kahn agreed to take care of business. Kano was assisting Erron, and Cassie and Jacqui tried to flee their captors, but Kano shot an eye-beam at them, promising he'd take off one of their legs if they tried that again. They were stopped by Mileena's ally Mavado, who said he was going to send Kotal a message written in blood. Kano decided the operation had gone south, and used Erron's portal stone to escape. Erron freed Cassie and Jacqui, telling them to fight for their lives. Mavado badly wounded Black, but Cassie and Jacqui killed Mavado by disemboweling him. They were eventually overwhelmed by the Red Dragon clan, and taken to the island of Shang Tsung. The Red Dragon left Erron alive so he could tell Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, who were trying to find their daughter, exactly where she was.

(Mortal Kombat X #19-21) - Kotal Kahn's empire was devastated by the Shokan, and he vowed vengeance, even if it involved risking his life invoking blood magik. His retinue pleaded for him to not be so foolhardy, but Kotal was deaf to their pleas. Before the discussion was finished Kano arrived with his Black Dragons, claiming to be their salvation. Kano agreed to ally himself with Kotal in exchange for becoming his arms dealer, and Kotal agreed. Kintaro, the Shokan and the Oni Warlords led another raid on Z'unkahrah, but were halted by Kotal and his new allies. Tremor unleashed an earthquake on the Shokan, and Kano hit them with an atomic weapon, decimating the forces. The Shokan refused to surrender, so Kotal ordered his forces to kill them all. Kintaro said he would not yield, but asked for an honorable death. Kotal spared him, telling him he never warred with the Shokan before Goro threw his lot with Mileena, and would welcome them as allies in war against her. Kintaro accepted, and both sides cheered. The Black Dragon demanded their payment, and Kotal told Kano he had repaid a debt for almost causing war between Earthrealm and Outworld when he kidnapped Cassie Cage. Kano threatened to take the sacred portalstone as his payment, and the offended Kotal struck him down, ordering his retinue to send the Black Dragon to the dungeon. Kotal told Sonya and Johnny he'd hand Kano over to them for justice on Earthrealm after they rescued Cassie together.

Kano had a cameo in Mortal Kombat X #3, 10, 11.
