History: (Sea Devils #9) - Hroodoo was an extraterrestrial banished from his home planet because he was a career criminal. The spaceship he was sent out in was drawn into Earth’s gravitational field, and his ship crashed through Earth’s oceans, into the ground, and landed in a second sea beneath the Earth. Hroodoo’s race adapted to local conditions, so he became the Coral Creature, and existed in solitude for millennia, becoming a cackling madman from the isolation. He dreamed of being a ruler with subjects, and in the modern day when the Sea Devils arrived in his domain. They’d planted an experimental atom bomb in a sea crater for the military, but were sucked into the crater and to the second sea. The Coral Creature delighted at having playthings he could do with as he pleased. They warned him that an atom bomb was going to go off over their heads, but he paid no heed, demanding that each male member complete a task for him or face death. He promised that if they all succeeded he’d make Judy his queen, and she grimaced at the prospect. Nick fixed a whale’s toothache by injecting its gums with a painkiller. Biff tamed a flying fish and discovered a waterspout that led to the surface sea, and alerted his teammates. Dane found his way through an undersea maze with the help of a giant eel, and he rode the eel and his teammates into the waterspout, reaching the surface. The atom bomb destroyed the second sea and the Coral Creature, but the military didn’t believe the Devil’s fantastic story.
