Powers: The Black Viper was an enormous serpentine demon who possessed superhuman strength, sharp fangs, and deadly venom.

History:  (Beowulf #3) - The Black Viper was worshipped as a god by the pygmy tribesman of the Darklands, and promised to keep their chieftain safe from harm. The Viper slaughtered untold tribesman of the Darklands, and filled his cave with their treasure and bones. The hero Beowulf sought the viper's venom to give him the mystic strength to combat Grendel, and convinced the chieftain he was a fool for believing in a demon. Beowulf forsook his companions to combat the black Viper unarmed. He killed the beast by entering his jaws and snapping them apart, drinking his venom to gain the strength he needed.
