History: (Power Company #6 (fb)) - <Eight years ago> Jack Spheer developed the Biomax Process, a plasma that could control organic tissue. He intended to use the process to redefine the way food was produced, growing cows to maturity in a number of days, creating vegetables that needed no refrigeration, etc. He tested certain Biomax elements in food-additives produced by Biospheer. His son Jason and their lawyer Josiah Power informed him that a small number of people became ill after ingesting Biomax additives, but Jack refused to pull the products. Green Arrow and Black Canary II broke into Biospheer and confronted Jack after their friends Hal Jordan (Green Lantern II) and Carol Ferris took sick from Biospheer marinade. Jack sicced Biomax mutated cattle on the heroes and was about to kill them when his son intervened. Jason accidentally pushed his father into a vat of Biomax formula, seemingly killing him.

(Power Company #6, 8, 9) - Jack Spheer did not die, but mutated into a living version of the Biomax Process. Calling himself Biomax he took over the mind of his son, who was currently running Biospheer. He had Jason hire Josiah Power's Power Company under the pretense of protecting Biospheer's latest product. Biomax actually wanted revenge on Josiah, whom he blamed for his mutation. Power Company members Manhunter and Striker Z arrived at Biospheer at the same time as Green Arrow, who was checking up on the company. Biomax revealed himself to the heroes and planned to take care of his enemies in one swoop, mind-controlling Arrow and forcing him to attack Striker and Manhunter. Striker Z recorded Biomax's appearance and his villainous gloating, then sped off. Biomax feared Biospheer would be ruined if the public saw the tape, so as a good will gesture he released Arrow and Manhunter. The tape of Biomax was later turned over to the police and the JLA.
