History: (Constantine: The Hellblazer #6) - Bartleby came to New York over 400 years ago with some of his fellow gargoyles. As NYC was founded and grew he fell in love with the city, and the magic it brought from its' diverse founders. In the present day Bartleby contacted magician John Constantine, telling him he felt magic in the city changing, and thought John would have noticed how many more supernatural occurences there were lately. John said he was no hero, and Bartleby agreed, calling him a crap person, but said the city had a need of him, and would nudge him in whatever direction it pleased.
