ARISIA

Real Name: Arisia

Class: Extraterrestrial (Graxos IV) technology-user

Occupation: Green Lantern, artist, fashion designer

Group Affiliation: Green Lantern Corps

Known Relatives: Fentara (father, deceased)

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Mobile throughout the universe, formerly Graxos IV, Los Angeles, California

First Appearance: Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #1 (May, 1981)

Powers: Like all Graxonites Arisia was extremely long-lived, and could shut down her body after extensive damage to heal or evolve into a new life stage. As a Green Lantern, Arisia wielded a power ring capable of doing almost anything she could imagine as long as it was recharged by her emerald power battery once every 24 hours. Examples of its' powers included flight, phasing, creating giant objects formed of energy, and force fields. The power ring was totally ineffective against anything colored yellow.

History: Arisia was made Green Lantern of space sector 2815 by the Guardians of the Universe, succeeding her father after he perished. She joined the Corps in a battle against Krona, where she first met Hal Jordan. Jordan became her role model, and later the object of her affection.

(Adventures of Superman #430 (add to other issue summary) - Superman fought alongside Arisia and the Corps.

(Green Lantern III #32-34) - Arisia went to Ferris Aircraft in hopes of finding Hal, instead she encountered Floro who asked her to tell Hal the New Guardians needed help immediately. Arisia was picked up by the police, and Hal took her into his custody. After delivering Floro's message she begged him to stay by her side. Hal told her she wasn't mentally prepared to be in a relationship, the years of pretending to be an adult and her recent blow to the head made her regress to a completely childish mentality. He made it clear they would not be together and left Arisia in the Justice League's care while he went off to help the Guardians. When the League was called off to Russia Hal brought Arisia to Carol Ferris' apartment and asked Carol to keep an eye on her.

(Guy Gardner: Warrior #20, 21) - Guy Gardner wanted to learn why Green Lanterns were turning up dead and stripped of their power rings, so he recruited his Justice League America teammates to travel to Oa. Arisia wanted to come along so she could get in touch with Kilowog, but Guy told her she had to stay behind because she was a liability because she lacked powers. She strapped on a large gun  and dominatrix outfit and told Guy she could take care of herself. Approaching Oa they spotted several dead Green Lanterns, and on Oa they found Kilowog’s remains, prompting Arisia to break down in tears. The heroes were attacked by power constructs and confronted by the source of the carnage, the power-mad Hal Jordan. Hal told them they should never have come after him, because all he wanted was to resurrect Coast City, but the Guardians and GLC got in his way. He defeated the heroes and destroyed Guy Gardner’s power ring.

(Green Lantern: Rebirth #4) - Arisia appeared to Hal Jordan as he was traveling to the afterlife.

(Green Lantern IV #12, 13) - Arisia didn’t die, her body had shut down and begun to repair itself when the Manhunters dug up her grave. They were seeking Green Lanterns for a connection to the Central Power Battery and to power themselves. Hal Jordan and Guy went to the Manhunter homeworld Biot to rescue the Lanterns Hal thought he’d killed and discovered Arisia. Arisia was happy to be alive and reunited with her love. She always had faith that Hal was never really evil, and that he’d come back. Cyborg-Superman, leader of the Manhunters, detested their love, and unleashed his Highmasters, who tried to use Arisia and Hal as a power source. They overcame the Highmaster and used it to destroy Biot, and return the Lost Lanterns to Oa.

(Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special #1) - Arisia was on Oa when the planet was assaulted by the Sinestro Corps. After a valiant fight many Green Lanterns were killed, and the Sinestro Corps fled with sciencell prisoners Superboy Prime and Cyborg Superman as their newest recruits.

(Green Lantern IV #21) - Arisia and the Corps began picking up the pieces after the assault on Oa, and Salakk realized that the Sinestro Corps were picking off Lanterns across the universe, leaving over 50 dead.  The Lost Lanterns were sent to Qward to rescue Kyle Rayner from the Sinestro Corps, while the rest of the Lanterns were ordered by the Guardians to stay on Oa and prepare for another assault.

(Green Lantern Corps II #14-16, (Green Lantern Corps II #15, 16, Green Lantern IV #23) - The Sinestro Corps took out a sector house in 2263, so Kilowog rallied Arisia and the other Corps members on Oa, telling them they were going to take the fight to the Sinestro soldiers. Salakk took Arisia aside and asked her to keep close to Sodam Yat and watch his back. She asked if there was something special about him, and Salakk told her to just follow orders and one day she might get her answer. The sentient planet Sinestro Corps soldier Ranx attacked Mogo, knowing the Corps would not long survive without Mogo to direct power rings to worthy recipients and to mentally train new recruits. Kilowog and the Lanterns under his command, including Arisia, arrived and rallied behind Mogo, but  Sinestro Corps drill sergeant Arkillo beat them back with his soldiers. Despite the GLC’s efforts Ranx ripped a hole in Mogo’s surface and sent in the Children of the White Lobe, the Sinestro Corps latest allies, so they could explode and destroy the power ring at Mogo’s core. Kilowog sent corpsmen Yat, Kol, Stel and Chthatis off to Ranx to destroy the planet’s brain. Arisia wanted to follow Salakk’s orders and stay with Yat, but Kilowog overruled her. She ended up disobeying his commands and going to Ranx. The Guardians foresaw the Blackest Night prophecy coming to pass with the rise of the Sinestro Corps, and did the unthinkable, rewriting the Book of Oa. The first of their ten new laws stated that the Corps power rings were authorized to use lethal force against the Sinestro Corps, and they announced this law to the GLC, including Arisia. The Corps suffered heavy losses on Ranx and Mogo, but Arisia still refused to kill. Sodam Yat turned out not to need Arisia’s protection, and single-handedly destroyed Ranx. The Children of the White Lobe were destroyed, and the Sinestro Corps fled Mogo, turning their attentions to Earth.

(Green Lantern IV #24, Green Lantern Corps II #17) - Arisia and the GLC arrived on Earth to fend off the Sinestro Corps invasion of the planet. Arisia and a group of Corpsmen were assigned to battle Sinestro Corps soldiers on Mount Rushmore, and dozens of Sinestro Corps soldiers were slaughtered, although Arisia still refused to use lethal force. The Corps were recalled to NYC, where the Anti-Monitor had arrived, planning on ruling the multiverse by ruling Earth.

(Green Lantern IV #25) - The Sinestro Corps War raged on Earth, and while Arisia, the GLC and an army of superheroes battled the Corps the Anti-Monitor prepared to unleash an anti-matter wave to destroy Earth. With Earth’s destruction, the entire 52 would fall, and he would once again rule all that was. The GLC ruptured the heart of Anti-Monitor’s Warworld, the Sinestro Corps central power battery, and created a shield around Warworld and the Monitor. The ensuing blast nearly destroyed the Anti-Monitor, and he was finished off by Superman-Prime, who betrayed him for having destroyed his home, Earth-Prime. GL Hal Jordan defeated Sinestro in personal combat, and the Sinestro Corps, lacking any leadership, fled Earth. The heroes rejoiced and began rebuilding the damage the Sinestro Corps did.
