History: (Superman vol. 1 #13)-Quigley is a resident of Earth-2, a parallel Earth very similar to our own. He was a big-game hunter who needed new thrills in life. He took the masked identity of the Archer, and decided to hunt humans for fun and profit. He sent a threatening letter to a wealthy man named Thomas Gayford, demanding a fortune if Gayford didn’t want to die. Gayford laughed him off, and threw a party at his mansion specifically to mock the Archer. Archer first slew his bodyguards and then killed Gayford to show that he meant business. When Clark Kent (Superman I) and Lois Lane were sent to report on the murder, they quickly became targets for Archer. He then sent a threat to wealthy jeweler Amos Kendrick, but Superman foiled this assassination attempt. At this point Archer’s butler discovered the identity of his employer, and attempted to reveal it to Lois Lane, but Archer cut him off with an arrow to the heart. Before he could kill Lois, Superman flew to the rescue. Archer was promptly defeated and unmasked.

(Superman Family #221)-After being released from prison, Archer lures Superman and Lois Lane into separate deathtraps in a bid for revenge. Archer's enemies escape unscathed and Archer is returned to jail.

Due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Archer's existence was erased from DC continuity.
