History: (Metamorpho
I #16, 17 (fb, BTS)) - Algon was a Roman legionnaire who wandered into an
Egyptian temple, being transformed by Ra into a metamorph. He allied himself
with Queen Jezeba of Ma-Phoor, who became his lover, and he guarded Ma-Phoor
from invading armies. Algon betrayed Jezeba, so she used the Orb of Ra to exile
him, stripping him of his powers and making him a lifeless hulk,
and closed up Ma-Phoor from the outside world. 2,000 years later Jezeba
discovered the metamorph superhero Metamorpho and believed him to be Algon. She
brought him to Ma-Phoor and wedded him. She led her armies into the outside
world, bent on ruling the world alongside her “Algon,” but Metamorpho
betrayed her, killing the Ma-Phoor army. Jezeba was outraged at the disloyalty,
and tried to use her Orb of Ra to control Metamorpho, but contact with the
outside world made her age rapidly, turning her into a mummy.
(Metamorpho I #17) - The supervillain Prosecutor was tasked by a mysterious client to frame Metamorpho for murder. To this end he revived Algon, restoring his bodies with a volcanic bath. He needed Algon to kill Wally Bannister, the husband of Metamorpho’s ex-fiancée Sapphire Stagg. He knew that eye-witnesses would accuse Metamorpho because he was a look-alike for Algon. Algon cherished the idea of being the world’s only Element Man and agreed, drowning Wally. Metamorpho was convicted and sentenced to death, but later freed from his fate by Element Girl. They learned that Prosecutor was behind the frame-job, and followed him to Algon’s resting place on a volcanic island. Metamorpho engaged Algon in battle, and Algon perished because he’d spent too much time in the seemingly rejuvenating volcanic bath, another ploy by the Prosecutor. He bemoaned being seduced into evil by the Prosecutor, and made Metamorpho promise he’d use his powers only for good.
