History(New Adventures of Superboy #2) - Ahriman was the Persian god of darkness and twin to Ahura Mazda, Persian god of light. Ahriman’s cult found a mystic icon of Mazda carved by Zoroaster and although they were afraid of destroying it they carved  Ahriman’s image into the back of it, serving as a vessel for his power. The Twins of Kokra was forgotten and buried until the present day when it was unearthed by Professor Lang and brought back to Smallville. Ahriman possessed Lang and conspired to find a way to destroy the image of Mazda. He gave Lang’s daughter the Kokra Necklace, so she could see his true demonic identity, and in a hysterical fit she sought out Superboy for help. Superboy initially thought she was delusional and saved Lang / Ahriman from mystic flames sent by Mazda to destroy his rival. Ahriman tried to convince him to use his heat-vision to melt Mazda’s image, claiming it was Ahriman’s, but Superboy had read Lang’s field notes and realized he was being manipulated. He melted Ahriman’s image, freeing Lang from possession and forcing the demon from the earthly plane.
