A Family Tradition
She released her hands and wiped some tears. "No, it's not." Jack looked down at his tux. "No baby, it's not the tux. It's this. You singing with Nsync. I just don't feel right about this." Jack pulled his mother into a hug. "You never feel right about me singing, period." He smiled. "But there's something you don't know about this group." "What? That they're not really old. It's just make-up." He laughed. "I knew they would stay young forever." "It's about you're father." "But you told me.." "I know what I told you, Jack." She snapped. "It isn't the truth." She looked down. Jack looked at his mother. "Why now? Why do you have to tell me this now? When all the world is watching and it's the biggest night of my life?" "For the same reason I told your father that I was pregnant with you, 20 years ago. It was a night like tonight. The biggest in his career and with all the world watching." "You pick the most amazing moments.." Jack scoffed. "Jack." He didn't look at her. "Jacob Ruby, look at me right now!" She shouted. "I want you to know something. In all my life. In all the things I've done, and will ever do. You're the best thing that came out of it all. Do you understand that?" She asked him. "Yeah", he whispered. She then hugged him, but turned cold. "He's coming." "Who's coming, Mom?" Jack looked at her. All the blood had drained out of her face. "Mom? Who's coming?" "Juppy." "What? Who's Juppy? Mom?" But she wouldn't answer him. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Who is it?" Jack asked a little annoyed. "Justin Timberlake. Just wanted to come by and wish you good luck." "Oh, come in." Jack said helping his mother sit down. And then he turned around. The look on Justin's face was that of his mothers'. And then he knew what she meant. Trying to cover his shock, "Um, Mr. Timberlake. My mom, Kallista White." Justin reached down and shook her hand. "Mrs. White, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." He never took his eyes away from her's. Jack continued to look at his mother and Justin. "Well, I should be going now. Just wanted to wish you luck." Justin walked for the door and then stopped. He turned and looked carefully at Jack. "You turned out just how I would have wanted you to." He left Jack in tears. Later that night, while up on stage, Jack sung his heart out. He made all the girls swoon, including his girlfriend of 3 months Samantha Chasez, daughter of JC Chasez, who had something important to tell him after the concert. A family tradition, indeed. |
