Short Drama Skit

The Witness

Props: 8-10 desks, A chalkboard
The players: 7-8 students, 1 teacher
The setting: classroom
Chalkboard reads: Essay: My Easter Vacation

(teacher standing, addressing class)
Teacher: Hello class, welcome back from Easter vacation. You know your essays are due. We are going to read them out loud.
(class all sighs, starts talking to each other)
Ok, quiet, Dennis you first!
(Dennis looks disgusted and slowly walks to front)

Dennis: What I did on my Easter Vacation... My vacation was pretty boring. The first weekend we cleaned to yard. On Monday I was home, had to watch my little sister. Mom went shopping. On Tuesday I went fishing at the creek by the house. I caught 3 fish, they were too small to eat. So instead, I just let them lay on the ground and watched them die. (grins)
( the class goes into an uproar, boys laughing, the girls grossing out)
The rest of the week I just laid around watching T.V. and playing Super Nintendo.
(starts back to his desk)

Teacher: That was good Dennis. Your next John.
(John goes to front)

John: My Easter vacation. My Easter vacation was pretty cool. Skateboarding ruled my life most of the time. When I wan't busy skateboarding I played basketball with some dudes, you know buds. Mom cooked special food for me, you know, pizza, hot dogs, nachos, cheese dip and lots of other cool food. The only bummer was I had to mow the lawn. Aaaa.. that's like it, Teach.
(goes back)

Teacher: Very good John, a little too much slang but still good. Lets see, we have time for one more. Lets see, Mary, I'll bet you have a good one.
(Mary real excited jumps up and hurries to the front)

Mary: My Easter vacation...I decided at Christmas that I would spend my Easter Vacation studying the bible.
(class laughs and snickers, boys throwing paper wads)
I started by reading John Chapter 3, because I wanted to remember why Jesus came. The next day, I skipped around reading the miracles He performed in Luke chapters 5 and 8. It reminded me that my faith in God is a powerful thing. Then, I studied John chapter 19 and 20. That is where I remembered Jesus' death, burial, and resur..... (teacher interrupts)

Teacher: Mary I am going to have to stop you. I can not allow you to discuss religion during class time, there are laws about this....
(Mary interrupts)

Mary: But it is how I spent my vacation! (angry and nearly in tears)
( class laughes at her all but one girl: Betty)

Teacher: Mary, please sit down. ( Mary goes back to her desk) Now class, bring your essays again tomorrow. I will pick 3 or 4 more to read them. That's all the time we have today. Have a nice lunch.
(all the students leave except Mary and Betty)

(teacher, walking to the door turns around)
Teacher: Girls aren't you going to lunch?
(Mary still at desk and looking very sad)

Betty: (standing up) We'll be along soon. (teacher leaves)
(Betty comes close to Mary)

Betty: Mary, I was wondering, could you tell me more about Jesus.... I've never been told what Easter was really about. I mean, did He really rise from the grave?
(Mary's frown is replaced by a smile)

Mary: (exclaims) Thank you Jesus! I sure can.
(Mary and Betty start for the door)

Mary: (very excited) Not only did He rise from the grave, He went back to visit his disciples...
(going thru the door or offstage)
