Our certified organic patchouli oil
is produced by local organic farmer groups on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.
These farmers have been planting patchouli (pogstemon cablin), a ground
covering leafy plant, for many generations.
The essential oil is produced in
small distilleries, central to each group. All farmers and distillers are
assisted and trained to achieve good growth of plants and consistency in
distilling.
The farmers utilize sustainable production
practices including: mulching, crop rotations, green manure and cultivating
patchouli seedlings in the traditional manner with the addition of a little
modern technology.
The Aceh Province is renowned for
its high quality patchouli. Our oil is a deep red to chocolate color reflecting
an iron content found in the soils of this region.
