The student who has experienced success in non-verbal communication and expression is a student who can adapt to any environment. These skills enable strategic thinking and creative problem solving, competencies necessary for success in today’s world. We know that Art creates awareness and stimulates creativity. These are abilities that are needed in all walks of life. We feel that what we teach enhances, reinforces and broadens what is taught in all of the other departments on this campus. It is the desire of this faculty to instill a love of Art and all that it encompasses. We want to teach students to look at and appreciate all forms of Art; as well as how to create Art . Personal expression and the ability to communicate at a level that fosters critical thinking are key factors that make our area special and significant. Art intensifies life. The typical student schedule offers very little time for reflection. We feel that the Art curriculum addresses this need. Students have time to reflect and even visually interpret the things that concern them at levels they usually don’t have time to explore. The student of today is the Art connoisseur of tomorrow. A society that appreciates and supports the Arts is a civilized society and one in which we would like to take part. The faculty believes that all students should experience the success of being able to create and communicate non-verbally. This faculty believes that all students have the ability to express themselves in a visually literate manner and that they are all capable of mastering the basic tools that make this possible. We also feel that being able to express ones self in the fine arts is essential for intellectual well-roundedness..
