The Little Canary
I wrote this poem in Creative Expression, which was a subject I did in year 9 in 1998. I hope you like it, and understand the underline meaning of the poem, than merely the story of what the words tell.
A little canary in the cage
Is like a young, scared, terrified girl
Trapped in a horrible, dark, prison
With no where else to go
She jumps from side to side
She skips from here to there
Terrified of what awaits her
Wondering what the next day will be like
Bang! Bang! She hits the cage
Twit! Twit! She yells loudly
Hoping help comes to her
Hoping she would quickly be freed
Humans are her controllers
They are the masters
They are the deciders
For only they can set her free
While they take her for granted
Using her as a display
She patiently waits for that day
When freedom finally comes
