                        The Markus PaGE

Last weekend was great. We played in Landstuhl, our hometown, at the firehouse. We had more than 800 people crowded around and it was the ultimate party.

They could have gone on for hours, the crowd certainly was ready to - they had a hard time getting off stage - they kept screaming for them to "do another song!!!" MarkusG.JPG (10244 bytes)

The time goes by way too fast when these guys play!!

It was one of the greatest shows!! Markus is on vacation this week to the Black Forest.   Even celebrities need some time to themselves now and then.

Fritzje, Markus and Manuella at biker's rally

I'm sure this is Markus' favorite position, two beautful women draped over him.  (:->)

This is Manuela (right) and Fritzje (left), who are good friends of the band.  These are the ladies that sell all of the Arson souvenirs at the concerts.

ARSON was introduced in 1986, 14 years ago.  The band was started by a previous drummer. Then Heiko joined, playing lead guitar and Markus came in as lead singer.  (The rest will go down in History(:->)).  He also came up with the name of the band.  He likes bright, flashy colors, fireworks, events that are out of the ordinary.  Arson, in the 80's, had fireworks on stage, explosions, smoke, fog, fantastic light shows, all things that went with the image of fire, which is how they became ARSON.

Chicks still dig Elvis !

As the Front man for Arson, Markus has a lot of fun just being himself... or is that, being Elvis?  When asked if the image of Elvis was a good one here in Germany, he simply smiled and slid into the audience to get his picture taken with another beautiful girl who thought Elvis was great!

Point made.  Chicks still dig Elvis in Deutschland.

Markus clearly has a lot of fun on stage, and when he isn't wandering out to the audience, the audience will often come to him.

This gentleman appears to have lost a bet with his buddies at the bar, so Markus obligingly gave him his due... a haircut not soon to be forgotten! (or regrown)

He took it with a smile, and the crowd cheered.

Lost a bet, but still smiling

Markus, Man of Action.

Audience participation is Great!  What's the point of a party if no one is willing to have any fun?

If you don't feel like Rocking, Dancing, or coming up on stage to help Markus sing a song... that's okay... there's plenty of room to sit back and watch, and have a beer.  You'll still leave with a smile, and a tune in your heart.

That's the point!

Every concert is a different experience.  New tunes and a different crowd always makes for new chemistry.  Fun, of course, is the essential ingredient.

Markus carries that with him.  Wind him up and let him go.  Instant party.

Man of many words The name HotDonation for their very first CD was also his invention.  In a History class in school he learned of a very greedy King whose people were freezing and starving during the winter.  He provided no coal for their fires nor any way for them to earn money to buy food.  For his amusement he would heat coins until they were red hot and throw them to the people.   Out of desparation, they would catch them and hold on to them so tight their hands would literally burn. Thus, Hot Donation.

Markus loves Rock and Roll, to be sure, but his true love of music is Classical.  This music, he feels, is perfect, it has no flaws. It has been played for centuries and so finely tuned, how could it be flawed?  (His favorite classical artist is Pavaroti).

I asked if he had ever taken singing lessons.  He certainly has, but because of his job, had to quit for a while.  His New Years Resolution is to begin again in 1999.  I asked if he would stick with singing Rock & Roll, especially with his true love of the classics.   He said yes, at least until he's around 50, but then he thinks Rock singers should be younger.  (I guess no one has told Mick Jagger or Robert Plant that, huh?)
