Maver
Maver lives in Underbridge, an impoverished area of the City of Ing. He wakes up in the morning, and refuses to have breakfast with his mom because he wants to go see his friend Rolfe's newly made robot, which Rolfe said would be finished this morning.
Maver's house is very simple, but there are a number of useful items (First Aid Kit, etc.) in his garage, which is also cluttered with junk, including some worn out furniture, and a motorcycle in one corner.
Most of the people you talk to complain that the water has stopped running at the local tap. Other discussion includes the construction of the fancy Ellisworth Casino nearby, and the general hunger and destitution of Underbridge.
When Maver arrives at Rolfe's house, he finds Rolfe shouting and stuttering in frustration. The lack of water has rendered the electrolysis method he intended to use to produce the robot's hydrogen fuel totally nonfunctional. Rolfe's house includes rooms for his parents, himself, his sister, and the basement where he works on his 'projects.'
The two set out to the Water Diversion Facility to address the problem. A simple puzzle or two must be solved to enter. Once inside, they find that an integral cog has been removed, which has caused the problem. Local bums living in the water diversion facility say that they saw a strange man here earlier, muttering about magic and looking confused&nervous.
The party tracks the strange man, via various conversational clues, to the Cnarl Cave just south of Underbridge.
The cave is a relatively basic early dungeon adventure. At the end of the cave, the party encounters a strange man.
???: "Where is it! Where is my door?"
Rolfe: "Uh-, excuse me sir, d-did you uh t-take a piece of the machinery f-from the-?"
???: "I did nothing of the kind! I won't give it back! I need it! Can't you see it's all I need to make things right?"
Maver: "Look man, whatever you want that thing for, it doesn't belong to you. There's a lot of people who need that for their drinking water, so you can't just take it."
???: "I cannot give it away! I must keep it! I hate you! You're murderers!! MURDERERS!!!"
Fight ensues. The strange man is some sort of weird wizard. Party slays him and takes the cog.
Maver: "What did you want it so badly for?"
Rolfe: "M-man, that g-guy was c-c-crazy...we h-had to."
Maver: "I know, but..."
Fade to black as the characters depart.
