Journalist

A journalist plays a major role in the lives of the general public. The responsibility of informing the mass in a wide range of topic from the war on terror to what’s on a 8 o’clock that evening. If I were to get into the career of a journalist, I would chose to write about entertainment news rather that political issues because the news on TV do a good job at that already. I would love to work for TV Guide magazines because I would get to write articles and reviews of shows I love and shows I love to hate. I would get to recommend my personal favorite shows and tell readers to pass on shows which I feel are not worthy of been watched. I would highly recommend my favorite show of all time 24. I would write reviews and article praising it and would put it on the best light possible for all readers to see.

The individuals that want music to be censored have some arguable points. With censored music, kids will not learn the inappropriate language that fills it, right? Small young children will not go around spitting out random words they have just on the hottest track on the radio. It is completely foolish to think that with censored music, kids these days will not say any profanity. Would you feel hesitation to buy an album of an artist who you know rewrote some songs on their album just to get rid of the “PA” sticker and to sell more CDs? Some might because they now see the artist as a sell out, instead of someone who wants to spread his/her music to a much larger audience. But now the clean album can be sold in places that would have otherwise never carried it and as a result, sell more copies of that album. Therefore, the points brought up by pro-music censorship individuals are completely flawed.

The people who oversee music censoring are killing musician’s careers before they even get started. Censoring an album for what some may hold as rude or crude language is like having an artist on a leash and pulling it every time they use a profanity; hence robbing them of their freedom of speech. Artist and/or songwriters must now watch every word they write in their songs because of censorship; similar to an ever-watching big brother over their shoulder as they write. They may even find themselves taking out certain words from songs because they know it will not be played on TV or on the radio; taking away exposure that they desire for their band. An example would be the band Strata, who took out two words from two of their songs in their debut album because if they left them, their album would have had to have the “Parental Advisory” sticker, something they did not want. Censorship is limiting the vocabulary of all major recording artists just because certain words make several individuals uncomfortable. Sometimes the matter to express an undeniable feeling or to make a line more powerful is through the use of an explicit “bad” word. Artists have been robbed of their freedom of speech only to please a small group of people for far too long.
