Tuesday, 16 March 2004 Brain Awareness Week, which raises public awareness and creates interest in brain and nervous system research, takes place this month in classrooms, laboratories, and lecture halls across the nation. Tuesday, 2 March 2004 Today is Dr. Seuss 100th birthday! It's also Lou Reed's birthday and Jon Bon Jovi's, and I'm sure a bunch of other people I don't even know about. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY one and all!!! Wednesday, 18 February 2004 Friday,Feb.6,2004 Berlin A man who taught his dog the stiff-arm Nazi salute was given a 13-month suspended sentence Thursday for shouting "Sieg Heil" in public and wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Adolf Hitler on it. Police had stopped the man, identified only as Ronald T.,after he was heard shouting the Nazi slogan. While police watched, the man also commananded his dog, named Adolf, to raise its right paw upon hearing the command "Do the salute." Displaying Nazi symbols in public is a crime in Germany under laws meant to prevent any recurrence of Nazism.

The I.A.A. and the NEA urge you to take part in the reading events across the nation and to don 7ft tall, striped, stovepipe hats. NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every person in every community to celebrate reading on or around Dr. Seuss's birthday, a man who epitomizes a love of learning. In 2004 that falls on a Tuesday. (This is only a guideline. Please feel free to celebrate on the day that best coincides with your calendar.)

The official week for BAW is March 15-21, 2004, but any week is a good time to get involved.

Once a person decides that they know all the answers about a subject, they become unteachable. They refuse to look any further. Wednesday, 28 January 2004 VATICAN CITY -- Jan. 25th, After releasing doves from the window of his papal apartment, Pope John Paul watched a performance of break-dancers at the Vatican. One dancer planted his head on the inlaid marble floor of the Vatican hall and spun around. Another performer flung his body around in a series of spins and handstands. The 83-year-old pontiff stared from a raised throne waving his hand after each move, then after applauding the entire group, he mumbled: "For this creative hard work I bless you from my heart", "Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has a certain obligation: to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it".

Sun., Jan. 25th thru Sat., Jan. 31st is National Kazoo Week. Thursday, 15 January 2004 Police vowed Monday (1/5/04) to press a "crackdown" on the sale of "illegal" drugs in Christiania, the only autonomous zone in Europe and one of the last surviving havens of freedom in the world. Many in the Christiania neighborhood believe the drug "crackdown" will lead to the eviction of the more than 1000 residents and the realization of government plans to redevelop the 84-acre area for upscale housing. Police in recent months have increased the number of raids on this peaceful community. Since its birth, Christiania has been associated with rebelling against the prevailing system, and for just as long, the Freetown has experimented with new terms of democracy and ways of selfgoverment. Based on an idea of as much autonomy and as much power to the individual as possible, the dream of a life lived in freedom and the idea of a city ruled by its inhabitants still endures. In the way that Christiania organizes itself lies the real sociopolitical experiment, which we should not like to live without. People can manage themselves by a direct people´s democracy based on common sense rather than laws. Christiania has no laws, but has collectively put up a series of bans, which are in force in the Freetown: NO HARD DRUGS NO WEAPONS NO VIOLENCE NO TRADING WITH BUILDINGS OR RESIDENTIAL AREAS Now sadly this counterculture oasis with psychedelic colored buildings, free marijuana, no government, no cars and no police may be destroyed by the nazi like behavior of what is absurdly called the "Authorities" who are really authorities on nothing but ignorance and oppresion. This isn't a war on drugs it's a war on freedom. Christiania's motto is "YOU CAN'T KILL US WERE A PART OF YOU" Objective goals of Christiania: To build a self-governing society where all individuals freely can develop themselves under responsibility for the community. This society shall rest economically in itself, and the communion aim must be to show that psychological and physical pollution can be prevented. Please support the last remaining autonomous zone in the world.
