Setting: Just after the AC-195 war. Possibly
AU, but it’s worked in so it doesn’t warp the TV storyline.

Warnings: Violence, possible OOC? lemon,
angst. No NCS - you’ll see why I had to point that out. Several OCs but they
don’t necessarily play a big part.
Disclaimers: The only characters here that I
own are any alter egos, Kazimiriel, Machiavel, Sarrow and Malvad and a few
other characters that’ll pop up. Characters I don’t own include: Heero, Duo,
Trowa, Quatre, Wufei, Zechs, Treize and any other good ones in fact.
Also, I would like to note that I am not
Christian - anybody that wants to know why can pick one of two courses of
action, either accept the fact that I’m a Mahayanist or email me and prepare
for a very complex credo - and I’d like to add that this is just a story. If
anything in it offends anyone, I apologize very sincerely.
The anti-climax of the struggle had an
immediate and very powerful effect. Especially for Wufei. All he could do was
stand there in shock ‘Kreigan knew this was going to happen. I can’t believe he
kept it from me, but I suppose we’ve only known each other for a few days… a
few days and I’m never going to see him again? That’s harsh.’
He looked forlornly at the couples in the
middle of the square. ‘I guess I should at least go over and see how they are.
But would they honestly begrudge me a moment of peace?’ His train of thought
was brusquely interrupted as someone tapped him on the shoulder from behind.
“I’m sorry I didn’t have time to explain,”
Kreigan began to a fairly astounded Wufei. Then again, he’d spent most of his
visit here being fairly astounded so it shouldn’t have a surprise. “I
teleported at the last minute. There was never any risk. But I’m sorry I made
you feel so lousy… actually I’m not sure whether you did or not - that was just
a guess - but I’m just saying what I figured *I’d* think if I was in that
position -”
Wufei shook his head and interrupted
Kreigan’s racing words. “Just shut up,” he demanded, putting his arms around
the demon’s figure and claiming his lips in a gentle kiss. “I understand.”
Kreigan smiled and hugged Wufei closely to
him. “I knew you would.” He paused as he glanced across the square at the other
pilots, “I can’t help but feel a little responsible for this. Even if I’m not
to blame, I didn’t exactly make things any better. Right? Wufei, you okay?”
The Altron pilot narrowed his eyes towards
the light at the top of the hill. “What’s that up there?” he asked, pointing towards
said light.
Kreigan gaped as he realized what it was
heading towards the square. “Shit… Wufei do you know anything about
Christianity?”
“I’m okay really,” Quatre insisted as Trowa
attempted to pick him up off the floor. “I just feel a little tired,” he lied, actually
feeling as if he was being stabbed in the shoulder by flaming knife-blades. The
way he was trying to walk immediately gave him away.
Duo rolled his eyes and put his arm around
the opposite side to Trowa. “Quatre just be realistic, you need help,” he said
lightheartedly.
Quatre gasped in pain as he tried to move.
“Okay… okay,” he panted, struggling to keep his eyes open. “Can I also admit I
think I’m going to black out? Because if I can, then that would be great.”
“Whoa, hold on a second,” Duo added
inquisitively. “Looks like we’ve got company,” he added, nodding towards the
top of the hill.
There was a young woman, about twenty years
old, dressed in sky blue, shimmering robes and surrounded by white light headed
for them. Quatre smiled and felt slightly comforted by her presence, he knew
who it was and although he’d never actually had the privilege to meet her in
person, he knew she’d be able to make things better somehow.
As the woman approached, Heero and Duo got to
their feet feeling awed being in her company and yet still unsure of just who
it was they were looking at.
“Renfredriel,” she said quietly as she bent
down to the angel in Trowa’s arms. She had a voice so soft and beautiful it was
enough to make them want to break down and cry.
Quatre gulped. “Ave Maria. My lady, I’m
sorry,” he said, his voice broken and quiet. “I failed… I didn’t want to cause everyone
this pain.”
The little blond gasped as she pressed a
finger to his lips. “Don’t say a word, Renfredriel,” she replied in that honey
sweet voice. “You have surpassed your rank to be sure but you have proven
yourself to be more than any ordinary being. You shouldn’t worry about your
actions here today. Rest now,” she said kindly, closing his eyes and dropping
him into a deep comforting sleep.
The woman stood again, as Trowa lifted Quatre
from the ground, and took him off his hands. “He will be okay now,” she cooed,
smiling at his still innocent face. “We should return to Niravaana. My son can
see to him there. I would be very grateful if you’d all accompany me, but I’ll
understand a desire against it.”
Trowa followed without hesitation, so did Duo
and Heero. The three demons and the one remaining human took a little more
coaxing before they finally agreed to go along with it.
“Her son…” Duo said to himself. “Heero… if
she’s Lady Mary, then doesn’t that make her son-”
“The one and only Jesus Christ,” Heero
interrupted.
“Wow, sorta makes Relena seem insignificant,
doesn’t it?” he laughed slightly. “This whole thing just keeps getting more and
more far-fetched. But I guess everything worked out kinda okay. At least we’re
all together, right?”
Heero let a small smile grace him before
taking Duo’s hand, “Right. All that’s left now is to figure out a way to get us
all back to Earth.”
Arriving back at Niravaana, Mary carried
Quatre through the halls of the Sanhedrin’s palace and to a set of more
understated and humble rooms. She turned to the three humans, having left Wufei,
Kreigan, Treize and Zechs back in a sitting room, and addressed them seriously.
“You are all to stay here, do you
understand?” Mary began, firmly but still with a kindly tone. “Renfredriel
needs very deep rest. There’s no way of saving his wing but if he doesn’t get
some intensive treatment, it could leave him seriously ill.”
Trowa seemed to be quietly resigning himself
to staying behind, but Duo on the other hand was having none of it.
“Um… Lady Mary, ma’am, I’m not trying to be
rude or anything but can’t Trowa go at least?” Duo asked on behalf of Quatre’s
lover. “I mean, I know you probably already know this, but they’re supposed to
be together. Please don’t split ‘em up,” he added imploringly, feeling like a
frightened school kid in her presence.
Mary smiled at how strong his friendship for
the two lovers was. “I appreciate your request Duo, but this is for Trowa’s
safety. There’s something about the divine medicine that can be harmful to
sentient humans. Renfredriel will be just fine but I can’t say the same for
Trowa if he stays nearby. I really am genuinely sorry, please make yourselves
comfortable if you can.”
With that she shut the door behind her and
laid Quatre gently to rest on a sofa. ‘I’m sorry to force this decision on you,
little one. But these next few days are not going to be easy for anyone.’

After a few hours, finding Heero sat on a
sofa with a sleeping Duo lain across him and Trowa sat uneasily in an armchair,
they were interrupted as an angel walked in through another door.
“It’s time you left,” he said sternly.
“You’ve all lingered in this place long enough.”
Trowa frowned. “What do you mean ‘leave’?” he
asked skeptically as Heero shook Duo awake.
“I mean Niravaana is back to normal now,
since Prince Machiavel has agreed to come to some kind of understanding with
Lady Mary over the destination of evil specters, you’ve no further purpose
here.”
The Heavyarms pilot defiantly got to his
feet. “But what about Quatre?”
“He’s going to be just fine in a few days,”
the angel continued. “But he doesn’t need your help. In fact, the less
interference that there is from humans, the better. Just be cooperative and
come along.”
Duo glared at the angel as he left the room.
“Some nerve! How dare he! We can’t possibly leave without seeing Quatre first.”
“He’s still unconscious,” Trowa said sadly.
“This might work out. Quatre wouldn’t let this happen unless we were safe,
would he?”
“That’s not the point-”
Trowa rounded menacingly on the Deathscythe
pilot. “Duo, just drop it!”
The braided boy did as he was told, knowing
that Trowa never snapped at anyone unless it was something extremely important.
“Sorry, Trowa. You’re right, we should go.”
Heero exchanged worried glances with his
lover as Trowa turned his back to them and walked out of the room. They
followed and immediately found Wufei stood with Kreigan. The demon stepped
forward to speak with their guide. “Wufei wants to stay here,” he said bluntly.
“What!?” Duo exclaimed at the Altron pilot. “Are
you actually telling us you’d rather be dead?”
“I’d rather be dead than be separated from
him for most likely more than another eighty years, yes!” Wufei argued back.
“Surely Barton can understand this… wait, aren’t you staying?”
The angel spoke up, “He needs someone to
vouch for his existence here. Kreigan can for you, so your stay is fine. Trowa
however, hasn’t got a guardian. Wufei, if death is what you want then you have
every right to it. Which realm do you want to remain in?”
“I’ll stay in Enf- um, Vardynne,” Wufei
stammered.
The angel confirmed his decision with the
words “There’s no going back on this now. This is death and this is permanent,”
and pressed a hand to the nervous Chinese boy’s chest.
Wufei gasped as he literally felt the life
sucked out of him, the pulling in his veins and his muscles as his human spirit
was drawn from his body was so much an alien feeling it made him want to let
out a bloodcurdling scream.
Scenes from every aspect of his life raced
through his head. It sunk him into darkness as flashes of light stabbed in
front of his eyes, conjuring up memories he didn’t even know he had. Almost as
if he was in Wing Zero all over again.
Having had his breath stilled for about two
minutes he drew in a harsh panting breath, his eyes wide with torment and
virtually collapsed into his lover’s arms behind him. ‘I just died… *again*’ He
shook off his confusion, reasoning that he had the an eternity to figure this
place out. He tried to level out his thoughts and found the more he thought,
the more he slipped towards unconsciousness.
After witnessing Wufei’s ordeal, Duo was more
sure than ever that he wanted to go home. He stepped forwards as the Altron
pilot steadied himself, and held out his hand. Wufei seemed to follow his idea
and shook the Deathscythe pilot by the hand.
“It’s not gonna be the same without you,
Wufei,” Duo said sincerely.
Wufei nodded. “Still, it’s not as if we’re
never going to see each other again, right?”
Heero smiled a little as the angel ushered
them from the room. “I’ll see you in about eighty years then, Chang,” he
replied with an aberrant salute.
“You too, Yuy.”
