"A shilling for your thoughts?" Goku asked the silent man sitting in front of him.
"No." Vegeta replied gruffly, not wishing to share his personal life with a stranger.
Goku remained silent for a while before speaking again. "It will be night soon." Vegeta remained quiet. "We’ll have to stop soon, luckily my manor isn’t far from here."
"Manor?" Vegeta asked, just a wee bit curious.
"Yes, I have a manor. You didn’t think I was just another commoner did you?" Goku smirked.
"With your attire you don’t fit in with the commoners. "Vegeta said logically.
"You bet I don’t."
"So, do you have a title of some sort?" Vegeta asked.
"I am Count Kakarot." Goku sighed.
"Count Kakarot!" Vegeta exclaimed. My savior is Count Kakarot! "Your family has served my father the King well."
Goku was about to say something but before he could, Black reared back, throwing the surprised men off. The Mighty steed took off in a mad gallop, leaving the men behind in his dust.
"Something must have spooked him. Damn it! I should have been paying closer attention to our surroundings." Goku cursed to himself, and then looked around for the Prince. "Prince Vegeta, where are you?"
"Over here." Came a muffled reply.
Goku made his way over to where Vegeta had landed at the base of a mighty oak tree. "Are you all right my Prince?"
"My Ankle, it hurts."Vegeta grimaced with the pain.
"Let me see." Goku tenderly felt the Prince’s left ankle. "It’s broken." He said gravely.
"Why did your horse throw us?" Vegeta asked.
"Something spooked him, and the only thing that spooks Black is..." Goku’s sentence was cut short when a great gray wolf pounced on him.
"Kakarot!" Vegeta watched helplessly as the wolves circled Goku and lunged at him. Goku drew out his sword and sliced the leader open with one slash. The others growled in anger, the next in command taking his chance and attacking the Count. Again Goku struck, leaving another wolf dead. "It’s not worth it." Goku growled at the remaining wolves. "Leave now." Suddenly the wolves stopped growling and turned away, leaving their dead behind. Once again Goku cleaned his sword on the grass and re-sheathed it.
"My manor isn’t far from here, if we start now we’ll make it before it gets to dark to see." Goku explained as he walked toward the immobile Prince.
"And how do you suggest we get there?" Vegeta asked haughtily.
"I’m walking. With your ankle broken, you’re getting carried." Before Vegeta could protest Goku had picked him up and began carrying the Prince in the direction of his manor.
Vegeta already tired from the day’s events, sank into the Count’s arms and drifted into asleep.
Goku smiled at the shorter man in his arms. It had been years since his own wife had died, and he wasn’t lonely exactly. No he wasn’t lonely without a woman around, not with two energetic sons to raise. But he was lonely for the companionship of another adult. The Prince was so handsome; it was hard not to let his heart get away from him. But it was too late. This man had stolen his heart the second he had fallen on his rump after running into Black, and looking at Goku with a dazed, yet awed expression.
Cutting his daydreaming short Goku concentrated on getting to his manor, before any other bewitched animals attacked them. Bewitched was right, normally the wolves were friendly towards him. But something was wrong, Goku could feel it, something was very wrong.
